Having a look at the "In" and "Out" lists is fascinating. Of the "ins" where SB has paid a fee, there's only Kilgallon and Angeleri who have been real no-no's? Looking at the "Outs", there's 5, Collins, Cana, Bent, Jordan and Steed that I wouldn't have wanted to go (imho). Of those 5, there was no/little choice with Cana, Bent and Jordan. Overall it's not too bad at all I reckon? As others have said it's the wage issue that is more and more determining, who WILL, and who WON'T come. having said that, I'm tremendously disappointed over our lack of signing a proven goal scorer to replace Bent. Although Short is a wealthy man, even he cannot compete with the funds available to Man City and Chelsea (and Lpool at present), nor can SAFC compete with the commercial revenues of Manure, Arsenal or the Spuds. We are amongst a group of clubs competing in the "second level" of the PL. Think back to where we were at the end of the '08 season? If you consider that SAFC have improved their position year on year - to 10th last season - while NOT spending silly money on transfers and wages, it is an acheivement. How far we go from here is down to ability of management and the players brought in. This season (at the/towards the end) is THE one where judgement can, and I think SHOULD be made. Until the end of this season I will give my backing to SAFC, it's management and players. KTF
Clubs now have to be run as a business or run he risk of liquidation (Leeds anyone!). Ellis Short has his head screwed on and won't let that happen to us. However, we need to be patient. We are now an establised premiership side buying players we could only dream about a few years ago. Ellis Short has also underwritten our debt. I know we want more thats only natural but lets at least be realistic.
