A 1 in 2 strike rate in the Championship is very good going - splash the cash on him now while we can capitalise, so if we go back down, we have a ready-made goal machine to help us aim to go straight back up. I think Sean Dyche's tactics probably had an impact on Austin as well.
He scored 20 of his goals before the end of November when Eddie Howe was in charge. But Howe left to go back to Bournemouth on 12th Oct and Dyche came in and changed the style of play. I think he had an injury to his shoulder at some point to?
Don't think he'd cost us £7m - coming to the last year of his contract. SB wouldn't spend that amount on 1 player however good
Do we think austins likely, anybody had it from a reliable source. Didn't we look at him a few years ago and end up with McLean ?

Just wondered, and I can't be arsed to look at the original reports, are these "viable rumours" or just idle speculation by the papers. If the former have the press got an accurate inside track, if the latter are the lazy bastards just reading these threads and repeating it? OLM, you seem to have a reasonable finger on the City pulse, do any of these look likely?
Le Fondre wouldnt come here when he left Rovverham, he was adamant he wanted to move down south. **** him I say.
I haven't a clue I'm afraid, I've absolutely no idea who we're looking at the moment, but I suspect that the majority of the players mentioned are nothing but guesses.
Anyone who can score goals will do for me. So the answer is a Yes for me re. Charlie Austin. He scored 25 goals whereas Rhodes scored 29. As an example, Jay Rodriquez who scored about 18 goals for Burnley in 2011/12 season moved to Southampton last summer for £6m. So i would say £7m overall (if true) would be a good deal. Anyone you sign is a gamble. But with the amount of FAT players that SB brings in this summer £7m on Austin is not that bad if city had to pay that much. IMO, I would say that we may get Austin for around £3m with add ons if he is coming to the final year of his contract with Burnley. The good thing with Steve Bruce is that there will be no leaks re.transfer rumours and thats how it should be. I am quite happy to wait until the ink is dry. But its fun to speculate like.
I hope we sign no fat players - Parkin has signed for Fleetwood again so that's one less fat player we could get. Maybe Puskas is available?
Hopefully we can go for Bridcutt now Brighton are out the play offs, out of contract I believe and probably wont want to sign now!
Most clubs who don't get relegated from the Premier League have paid a lot of money for at least one striker.
Get Elmo and Boyd done then add Bridcutt, Austin and Mannone. I'd be chuffed with those, any other cheeky loans Steve can wangle would be a bonus.
We really need to sign the best striker we can attract, and for me that means no to Austin. If you look at the teams in this seasons relegation battle... Norwich, Southampton, Villa, Wigan, Reading, QPR, Sunderland, Fulham etc.... and then look at their best strikers... Holt Lambert Benteke Kone Le Fondre Remy Fletcher Berbatov Every one of those is a quality striker in their own right, yet their clubs have still struggled to maintain premier league status. Goals win games at the end of the day and every team listed above have at least one 10+ goals (or so) a season striker in them. We do have Aluko who you'd hope would score 10+ in the prem.. but he is untested at premiership level and we cant just rely on him. I have full confidence in Brucey to surprise us all and bring in a top quality striker, he's certainly got an eye for bringing talent to a club..
