Yes he can but his wife tweeted last night that Shane Long is going nowhere. It maybe a tad early for this weekend. Upto 5pm friday in some situations. You dont say.!!
If Long does not come, who do you think we should turn to? Is there a suitable plan B on a permanent? Possibly try sign Livermore up and look to bring someone in on loan.
Like who? Consider this is the January window, all clubs in the bottom half are hunting for a striker to help them avoid relegation. I think the Strikers we would be looking at are top end Championship (They won't want to sell as it may impact on promotion aspirations) or bottom half of the Premier League (if you're a club below us would you want to strengthen a considered rival for relegation? If you do sell, how do you attract an equivalent quality or better quality striker? Especially given the prospect you're fighting relegation) This is the worst window to try and strengthen, ridiculous that the club find themselves in this position having nearly signed him during the last window, which with hindsight would have been much better.
I Would look outside England. With that money we could get 2 good strikers. In England any piece of **** is OVERpriced 200%.
Like another Proschwitz? At least if you are buying from the UK, they don't need to settle in to another country and they are used to the style of football, the PL is different to any other league in Europe with regards to pace and physicality, a lot can't adjust. Spurs the perfect example of over reliance on imports.
PL is different even from the Championship. Nothing tells someone from the Championship will make it in the PL. Why not another Proschwitz as long as SB gives him a chance...
I agree with HFFP whilst saying Long is a little overpriced and an identical player in another league might cost us £2.5m. However, premiership experience is the key here. He's been part of a West Brom side who has been doing very well in the last few ways and are a club we are looking to emulate.
I think £5-£6m is ok for a PL Striker, strikers in the Championship that have only scored in that division can cost much more than Long. Rhodes £8m? Austin would have cost £5m? Ings £5m (Probably)? I don't think £5m is too much, or excessive. When you look at the Folanometer of £1m, Is Shane Long worth more than 5 Caleb Folans? Undoubtedly, yes he is!
The thing is, most of the good England based strikers are already at better teams than us. If they come from abroad, the fee is less; perhaps there is a gamble, but certainly its one worth taking.
Blackburn want £12m for Rhodes, Austin went for £4m(we'd agreed £4.5m) and I can't see Burnley letting Ings go for less than £7-8m, he's too important to them.
Values are irrelevant, I was merely using that to emphasise that Shane Long at £5-£6m was decent value.
After half the season has gone, the league table suggests we are better than 10 other teams in the table. So, Shane Long for the quoted figures would be a good signing. Better at this stage of the season than paying half that on a chancer from Europe. The January window is more about cementing your league position.
Yeah but I highly doubt we will finish 10th. Proschwitz wasn't a clinical finisher in Germany. Somebody like Hosiner who is in form is what I meant. Long would be alright, but I still don't think he will grab us buckets of goals.
Bucket loads of goals will be well beyond our budget at the moment. Why won't we finish 10th? It's a fair reflection given we have played over half the season!
Sorry, are you trying to say something? The point is the value of Rhodes, McCormack, Ings would either be the same £5-£6m on Long or considerably more. I'd rather spend the £5m on someone who has already featured regularly in the PL.
