Premiership football is the priority for the club make no mistake and always will be, The Tigers are struggling with player numbers at the moment and Bruce was correct to field the team that he did last night to give others a chance a 1-0 defeat away from home is not the end of the world and we are more than capable of comfortably winning the home fixture at the KC. Maybe time for some on here to think of the BIGGER picture before slagging off Bruce and the team this early in the season NOT helpful.

You cannot be serious! So goals are so easily come by, are they? It is a very bad mistake for any goalkeeper to make, let alone a top flight international. We did not recover because we struggle to score goals, regardless of who we play up front. We know (well some of us do) that these EL games are serving, to some extent, as pre-season, so SB is still finding the depth of his squad. I think most folk would have been made- up with a 0 - 0 draw and that is what it should have been. Somebody needs to have a serious word with the GK and we need to get players in, starting with Rhodes. Work-in-progress.

I'm not really getting the reaction to this. Brady and Hatty are going a bit over the top but my point was just that resting almost everyone was a stupid idea. I think Bruce really isn't arsed about the Europa League, which is frustrating since its such a big deal for the fans.

1-0 is a horrible scoreline. If they get 1 at the KC then we have to get 3. 0-0 at Trencin was tricky enough. I hate away goals.

I might never get to see City away in Europe, but I'm not crying! Recent events have given me a very different perspective on what is and what isn't important, I would have travelled to Trencin and Lokeren, but due to bereavement, I didn't. Whilst it would be great to get through to the next round, in the grand scheme of things, it isn't important.

the game was lost in midfield - McGuire, Macca and Chezza played well and at least we didn't have hoof it Bruce playing so we were actually a bit better than normal - but playing Rosie, Meyler, Boyd, Aluko and Brady instead of Hudd, Jake, Elmo, and Quinn was the big mistake as they created nothing for the lonesome Sago - Rosies crosses were awful, Boyd and Meyler were out of their depth and Brady seems to have lost it - only Aluko showed anything like the performance needed - the game changed when Elmo and Ince came on but it was all too late - lets hope Brucie gets it sorted for the second leg because a full strength team would have walked it last night

Quinn apparently (according to Burnsy) failed a late fitness test otherwise I assume he would have started.

I would have liked to have seen one of our "first choice" midfielders in there - either Hudds or Livermore - but nonetheless we are only 1-0 down and still have a good chance to go through next week.

    Don't panic Mr Mainwaring...

I think goals should come a lot easier than that yes. We were playing a fairly poor side who didn't really test us at all apart from two stupid errors from us. I don't like the ides that one mistake should lose you a game. We're good enough to score away at Lokeren. 1-1 would have been a good result. 1-0 is awful. We spent three quarters of the game offering no threat but seemed happy to sit on 0-0. A mistake can always happen so we should have gone for an away goal.

Er... then we won't get through.

    2-0 would be slightly better!

I am taking that as a theoretical response, because our goalscoring record does not support the theory in reality. When you have real problems scoring, a goalkeeper who gives goals away is a liability. I think your observation that we played for a 0-0 is bonkers, why would Bruce do that and risk going 1-0 down; I think you read too much into the fact that we simply have a goalscoring problem - our attacking midfield are simply midfield.

Was Brady playing in central midfield, or more as a second striker? Either way, he is much better as a winger or in his wing back role, although Figueroa sounded like he had a steady game.

Apparently Quinn simply did not make the squad, which is a shame as I think he would've added something to the midfield.

My question to Bruce is why not change it earlier if it isn't working

Not sure if Brady will ever get to his previous levels of performance , we all know we need a striker in now

That's the long and short of it.

Bruce knows that his job and the club's financial security rely on Premier League survival and is doing what he has to to achieve it. If they don't get past Lokeren next week, he will get over it easily.

The fans, on the other hand, take a more sentimental approach, meaning Europe is far, far more important to them than it is to SB.

    This.

We should have walked it, they really were poor, we didn't get beaten by a decent team in Europe, we ****ed up against North Ferriby type opposition.

Manager challenges his side to overturn European deficit in second leg....

Steve Bruce felt his side were taught a lesson about European football in Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League defeat against Belgian side KSC Lokeren, but is confident the Tigers can turn things around in the second leg at the KC Stadium next week.

Bruce’s men were beaten 1-0 at the Daknamstadion with Allan McGregor’s second half error gifting the hosts the lead. However, City created enough chances in the latter stages to suggest their first European adventure is far from over.

“All week I’ve been saying to the players how concentration levels are paramount when you’re playing in Europe,” said Bruce.

“We made a mistake that cost us the game and we have to look to rectify that next week. To be fair to Lokeren, they got after us quickly in the second half. As I keep saying, if you make a mistake at this level, it’s an awful way to lose the match.

“That’s how football works though. Allan was the hero last Saturday when saving a penalty and last night he made a mistake which cost us.

“It will be difficult in the second leg because we haven’t scored an away goal. We had three or four really wonderful opportunities to score late on but unfortunately we missed them.

“We’ve got to try and win the game next week, it’s as simple as that. We know that we’re capable of doing it. I saw enough in the last 15 or 20 minutes last night.

“It will be a different game next week, especially in front of our own supporters. It will be another great European night and I’m sure there’ll be a full house again. Like in the last round, we have to make sure we win the game.”
