The fact you took him seriously is concerning.

They'd improve our strength in depth.

Do Prado is the only one who's first team material. What a beast.

Good news! Do Prado was released by Saints this summer, tell Bruce to snap him up on a free.

And during that time he has seen the joke players, joke managers and joke board members come and go. Southampton lacked ambition for years, adopting the tightest wage control of any top level club, whilst taking the profits. they only started investing on the training ground in recent years and the academy whilst it has been able to produce some real quality was not actually very well structured. The Liebherr family saw that the development of the training ground was sound business, but Katherina Liebherrr is not interested in football at all, in fact the club is a distraction for her. She will make Southampton into a big club, but at the moment it is clear that the whole structure within the club will be changed and that is always a difficult time for anyone.

I do not know any Southampton supporters who are excited at the moment, they are all concerned that next season will be a struggle.

I don't know about your Southampton supporters, but if I was one I'd be bloody excited.

Yes, they may be losing some real quality but this could be the catalyst for really stepping it up a gear and trying to push up the league towards the top bracket. With all the funds that are likely to be at their disposal, get the right man in and have him play his cards right, there's real opportunity there.

They only can see what they had and have lost and nothing is certain.

    That's a matter of opinion.
We have just heard how fantastic Southampton are yet they seem to go through managers like a dose of salts.

You'd struggle to find many people in the world that don't think Spurs are bigger than Saints.

    Your point being...?

Time will tell, but it would be interesting to see how many of those players you listed are still at your club come the start of the season.

The Liebehrr family are the ones pumping money into your club. Dangerous when Katharina knows nothing about football. She may also view it as a waste of her family funds.

As my sister lives and works in Southampton - she knows many saints fans that don't share your optimism.

The club has a healthy transfer budget this summer regardless of player sales, the director of football and chairman have both said any player sales will be added to the pot. It then comes down to how wisely the huge funds are spent, but the club has been on the whole very successful in the transfer market in the last 5 years under Liebherr ownership.

She doesn't make football decisions, she is merely the owner. Football decisions are being made by Les Reed who has been extremely successful whilst at the club and seen the club rise from the bottom of League 1 to 8th in the Premier League.

She has been the owner for 4 years since her father died. In that time the club has risen from League 1 to 8th in the Premier League, in the last 2 years the club spent £73m on players and over £30m on improving the training ground and academy. She goes to matches home and away and even went to the annual staff game, if she had no interest in the club she's had ample opportunity to sell up at a profit in the last 4 years. Instead she's continued to invest and travels to England regularly to watch games. Don't believe what some in the press say when they claim she has no interest in the club.

Perhaps they should be more optimistic given how well the club has been run under Liebherr ownership for the last 5 years. 4 of which were under Katharina's ownership.

My point being, in answer to the poster who was listing all of Southamptons virtues, if it was such a fantastic club with such a bright future and owners who are wiling to back the manager etc etc....then why do mangers come and go like the number 10 bus?
As for Spurs. Big club in the past, but in the past. Today they are struggling to play catch up with Chelsea and Arsenal, they are living off their past reputation and that was made 40 odd years ago, and any one taking on the managers job there is about three games from the sack.
    Newcastle are exactly the same.
    And Everton.
    Not to mention Manchester United.

MLG, I am surrounded by Southampton supporters, I have lived and worked in the area for 40 years. I spent last Sunday afternoon talking about Saints whilst my grandson paraded around in last seasons training top. My Son in Law has just renewed his and the grandsons season cards at a cost on just a fraction under £1000. Not one person has said that they are excited about next season.

As for Kathleen, she did not like Cortese, she did not trust his wife and why his son is/was at the Academy well no one knows. In order for her to protect her Fathers legacy, she has supported the club, but just like Hull City it has to stand on its own two feet. Money from sales out will be used within the club, that is the case with most clubs under FFR.

The club has not been run well during the past four years. The training ground development was stalled for months whilst the club amended the plans and then changed them back several times. Former players were banned form the stadium for speaking out. In order to get answers from her Chairman, Kathleen Leibherr, tracked him down whilst he was on a skiing holiday (during the season) and in the medias words "stopped him in his tracks", so that she could ask him about events at the club.

    Dont paint a false picture.

Because in Pochettino's case Spurs are a bigger club than Saints. You were the one that suggested earlier they weren't, not me.

Again I'm lost as to your logical path here. Yes, Spurs are behind Arsenal and Chelsea, but Saints are also behind all three of them. That is why Saints lost a manager to Spurs, thats not to say Saints don't have a lot going for them.

Hmm, interesting. He's been widely fancied for jobs in Italy cos he was known - very publicly - to be unhappy at Gala. Could he be going back to Lazio perchance?

If they get him thats a great coup for Saints, Spurs shouldve gone for him instead.

Edit - Ive just seen on the Beeb that they're speculating Lazio. I honestly didnt see this before posting!

All it will take is a good managerial appointment and the mood will quickly change. Les Reed's interview appears to have gone down very well on the Saints forums and people are optimistic.

At least spell her name correctly to give the impression you know what your are talking about!

Southampton spent £37m and £36m in the last two seasons, they will have a big budget this summer regardless of further player sales. This summer they have over £4m from Lambert, £2m for Pochettino and Osvaldo will also likely leave. On top of this Krueger and Reed have confirmed any sales will go to the next manager, so he'll get a huge transfer pot. It is then down to how wisely it is spent, but the club has a good track record with more successes than failures in the market.

The club has risen from 68th to 8th in England in 5 years. I'd say that is pretty good going, wouldn't you?

The training ground increased significantly in scope and scale from it original plans, that is where the majority of the extra cost came from.

    I haven't, you have.

    Is this the Southampton tickler?

In fact, tickles should get on here. This chap is threatening his crown of King of the multi quote.
