Why do the papers keep peddling this line about Ashley having to pay more compo than they would have had to pay Rafa. I think they are missing the point that Rafa wasn't interested in signing unless they were going to give him money to spend on both players and infrastructure. So Brucey is very much a nice cheap option for Ashley.

"Bruce can't do much worse than Benitez did.
Got them relegated after 10 games in charge with one of the strongest playing squads the club had managed to put together since the days of Bobby Robson.
Followed that by a routine promotion and two uninspiring seasons in the PL.
He blamed every defeat on the owner and churned out nothing but dull, defensive, negative football."

Saw this comment on the BBC article about Bruce resigning. I can understand Benitez having us play torrid football, sometimes we were so negative it was actually in the news about how terrible we were playing. And sometimes I think he did use the board and ownership as an excuse, sometimes under Benitez we lost matches we shouldn't have, often against teams sitting below us and it left me incredibly frustrated. I think a bit more positive football and we could have probably broken into the top ten, the results against Huddersfield were particularly infuriating.

But this line here...
"with one of the strongest playing squads the club had managed to put together since the days of Bobby Robson."
I think that's one of the stupidest things I've ever read. We have Joselu instead of Shearer and Shelvey instead of Gary Speed.

People seriously look at Newcastle United and think that about our squad?:huh:
