Here's the page from the BBC. If Bruce signed a three year deal and two years remain now it would have been signed about the time the BBC said Davies wanted an extension. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27812588
You have no idea either but I distinctly remember Bruce mentioning it to Burns'y during an interview that his previous renewal was dependant upon City's promotion due to the size of the cut he would have to take if we remained in the Championship. We have a team of players who have been **** all season. There may not necessarily be the queue of takers that you imagine for most of our distinctly average squad.
We got promoted so you don't know whether he'd have signed or not. As you say he wouldn't have had many offers if his wage demands were that big. I don't think there will be a queue of takers, that's the problem. The small queue is likely for players we'd all want to keep. Whether we keep them may depend upon getting rid of some of the others.
How to cut the wages bill and make room for more strikers, replacements for any player we sell that we wanted to keep and a new goalkeeper.
I thought a 50% wage cut was on the cards for when we went down anyway. SB warned the players that. Rosey did a job, Macca? hmm not so much.
Any other nice stories to fill the time if you no longer care? What about the Barmby situation when he was sacked and events related to that?
The irony of Maccas situation is that when he actually did play to the best of his ability we went down with him in the team, at least he went out fighting. The whole cult/hero thing somebody mentioned today to me about him was because he used to be a disaster so when he played well everybody got pumped up, he's always been a gung ho ginger ninja but never matched that with performances for the most part until now
I agree, can say so because I'm going offline for a few weeks- too little, too late, but good luck to him anyhow
I'm gonna join you. I'm almightily pissed off at losing Rosie and Macca but I'll wait and see how he repairs the obvious damage. Maybe he's going to do something revolutionary like trying to find a balance by bringing in some attacking central midfielders, and strikers that can score goals, maybe he might even surprise us all by fielding a balanced side in something other than a 3-5-****ing-2 formation...but I won't be holding my breath.
City couldn't demand a fee for Macca, or for that matter any of the other players that've been released as they are no longer under contract. Done them a favour? Do me a favour.
They could have put them on the transfer market at the start of last season when they were under contract. Do me a favour clever ****, you know exactly what I meant.
We are likely to lose around £40 million next season. Say the released players save us £10 million in wages that leaves £30 to find. A 50% pay cut for the remaining players is around £23 million. That still leaves £7 million to find plus the outstanding transfer fees from this season and last. Steve Bruce played McShane for the crucial part of the season when we needed points to stay up. He had on the bench a player that some people on here think is a better than McShane and had another 2 years to run on his contract. What does that say about McShane, Alex Bruce or Steve Bruce? The loss of £40 million to help Macca get a new contract elsewhere is a bit excessive in my view.
I'm pleased we're finally having a clear-out. We need excellent championship players that will be competent PL players if we wish to go back up. Rosie is calearly classy, and I hope one day will return to coach and maybe manage us if he's up to it. McShane needs to go, he's not keen on being backup, and thats his prerogative. Thank god the others have been finally let go. It's obvious that players like McShane want to play regularly, but seriously, he's not going to be any use to us in 12 months time, he's not going to be a first choice in the championship and he had his chance to sign a contract, so now he's got a chance to get a deal that suits him. We need a mix of older/experience and youth, and yes we might need to take a punt again on some new faces. There is clearly a plan to rework and build on strong foundations in the team, and a desire to do well this next season. Bruce is the perfect manager for us. Dawson as captain. Davies back. Chester getting better. Brady getting better and better along with Robertson. Quinn and Meyler are dependable backups along with Bruce Jnr. Jelly I'd love to see stay but I don't know how bad his knees are. N'Doye I think could be awesome. Or terrible. He puzzles me as I've mentioned in other threads. We'll see Hernandez go I think, which is fine. Aluko might become the player we all hope he can. Elmo is still one my favorite players and can definitely do a good job for us. Huddz, I hope can become the player he was a year ago. Livermore can **** off. Diame could be critical, I would love to see him back to his best. Snodders I can't wait to see play for us. Jak is a good backup. Yes we have some blanks that need filling in, hopefully a mix of exciting loans and some punts on buying, maybe we'll find more like Robertson for the same price. I can't remember looking forward to a new season as much as this next one in years, and that's before we even know what the squad will look like.
