Arsehole, it's moderators. Use the full name, people clearly don't know who you are referring to otherwise.
A more valid analogy would be if an Aston Villa fan insisted on calling them 'Aston', saying it's part of their name and refusing to listen to anyone trying to tell him that fellow supporters don't say 'Aston', they say 'Villa'.
It's really not as A) Villa isn't a common part of a football club name, causing confusion when referring to the club merely as 'Villa' B) Aston Villa don't play in Aston. inb4 Comparisons of me to Assem.
I believe Aston is the broader district that Witton is part of. As already said if you want to suggest that Aston is the city they play in - which it isn't - then the other part of the argument still holds true that Villa is a unique diminutive so there is no need to use the other to avoid confusion.
That's because they're known as Aston Villa to most people. You can say Villa to somebody who isn't from the area and they still know who it is. You say City to somebody outside Hull and it could be any of 30 odd teams. The argument isn't for City fans calling us Hull, barely any do that, it's the people who get wound up about the national media calling us Hull or teams of other fans calling us Hull that's hilarious. Who cares?
Agree with this. Anyone speaking to people in a conversation within Hull would of course refer to us as City, as I did whenever there. When on the other sports board I post on - an Australian board - referring to us as City would cause confusion. Speaking to people in the street and calling us City would cause confusion. It's hard for me to switch between the two mind frames, and clearly this board is a pseudo-Hull based discussion, in which case only referring to us as City is acceptable. But the amount of fury and vitriol directed at people who use the term 'Hull' instead which is in many ways a stronger identifier to the club and the area than the vague 'City' is absurd.
