Brownie didn't leave for football reasons, he left because the board believed he was crooked. Regardless of the reason, the timing was disastrous and his replacement was clueless. Dowie managed 1.50 points per game for his nine games last season, Brownie managed 1.21 points per game for his 29 games. I think Brownie would almost certainly have got us more points than Dowie, but he can hardly claim that conclusively, his record for the year leading up to his dismissal was utterly appalling.
i'm surprised nobody mentioned the liverpool game. with brownie in charge we'd easily have got the required 8 poijts instead of the one we got. brownie's attacking 451 formation wuold have tore liverpool apart forcing the league to give us bonus points. under brown we often got 12 points from 9 games, espewcially in 2008 and 2010 was only about 16 months after 2008, so we would have deffo got the points in my opinion and anyone who disagrees is wrong and under brown bullard would have been fit and raring to go and probably scored a hat trick in all of the last 9 games with our back four of turner, cort, delany, dawson, whittle, rosenior, hinds, goodison and mcshane repelling all goal attempts jesus god it would have been fantastic but putting that numpty dowie in charge just because the brown team had only got one point from 98 matches was a massive mistake and it is obvious a volcanic change in our fortunes was just going to happen.
water under the bridge.. I'm glad we're now in a healthy position, I'm a big fan of the way the Pearsons go about their business.. Hopefully, a rousing reception for Brown & Ash (Brian, Wayne and Carl too) and then a lesson in total football showing up the old boys to be what they will be - league 1 fodder.. That's no disprespect to these players by the way.. it's just that as sure as eggs are eggs (not a bobby so I can say this) I wouldn't swap any of their players for ours.. as for the match.. whitewash on form but PB won't lay down and let us rub his tummy will he? his team will "step up to the plate when they cross the white line, look into the eyes of HCAFC and try and put some pride back in the shirt" etc.. Brown had his time, Dowie was dross & Pearson is the man...
LOL are you trying to usurp THE BANTERMAN from his golden throne?? my comment was trying to say that at such a late stage in the season and with only a flying f*** of a chance we might as well have left Brownie in charge. all Bartlett was trying to do was put some (more?) EPL money in his own pocket with the WW1 last-gasp over-the-top antic of his( Baildrick be played by Dowie (poorly)!!
This. I'll admit to mixed feeling about him, he started off awesome, ended up less so, but I'll clap him til the whistle goes for the game, same for Ash. Some people just need to be outraged for the sake of it I think.

As I understand it, the board may have had doubts about his being in cahoots with Duffen, but then certainly it was football reasons as openly stated by AP (little basis for assuming he would conjure up the wins we needed based on the facts of points gained over the previous year <you can't escape the cold facts>), being a view massively compounded by, and mainly for reasons to do with, the state of disarray in the dressing room and behind the scenes including Brown's own increasingly strange unacceptable 'behaviour'. The timing wasn't wished for, but it seems 'the board' had no real option given what was going on to act at the time they did (other than to have done it earlier which in retrospect they surely should have done - hindsight is wonderful eh). This isn't rumour spreading or speculating. It's based on fact as near as most of us are ever likely to get.
now, now scooterman......... don't let TWF get under your skin, or, if he has ...... release my thread back into the wild you can't keep it caged!!
One's already been started today: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/31539-Friday-Music-Thread-Preston-s-ex-Tigers
Phil Brown had been acting strange for a long time. If Turner had been kept we wouldn't be near relegation but we would still have been blundering along. Adam and Nigel Pearson are sensible people. There's no comparison between Adam, Nigel and Allams v Duffen, Brown and Bartlett.
Interesting that you should group things together like that as it was Adam Pearson that brought Phil Brown to the KC and it was Adam Pearson who sold the club to Bartlett. Not putting AP down here, as far as I'm concerned even when the guy makes mistakes (and he does) he can do no wrong and I trust him implicitly to always put the interests of the Club first. All I am saying is that your convenient grouping is not as "either or", "black and white" as you indicate. Also it's worth pointing out, much as I like Nigel Pearson, as of yet he has achieved nothing. Phil Brown took us to the Premiership with what had previously been Championship cannon fodder.
Myhill Ricketts Delaney Brown Dawson McPhee Okocha Ashbee Elliott Windass Campbell ----------------- This is the side that mauled PNE 3-0 in 2007/8.. hardly "cannon fodder" is it?
Never said it was, I said it had previously been cannon fodder, as in just the previous season, when Brownie saved from near certain relegation.
I think only two or three of these players could get in our side now tbh. As for the rest, they're nothing particularly special.
How the hell can anyone claim that Brown would or would not have kept us in the top flight? He left, we went down and nobody knows for sure what would have happened. Stop fretting about it for ****s sake, he left 11 months ago and we went down in May. There have been massive changes at our club and, hopefully, the start of a new and exciting era. We won our last game 5-1 away at our biggest rivals and have another match in less than 24 hours, and you're all talking about Brown Phil potentially keeping us in a league we now have no reason to be concerned with? It's history and it always will be, so focus on tomorrow! Viva Le Tango!
"It's history and it always will be, so focus on tomorrow!" You can learn a lot from history - well, most people can. I thought Brown was a great manager until he bottled it towards the end of 2008. After that it was a rapid decline. Adam has done so much for the club. Even if he hasn't been perfect - who has? - I think his plus points far outweigh the bad. I'm not sure about Nigel Pearson not winning anything - he won promotion with Leicester City. He hasn't had an opportunity to do that with us yet. Nigel seems to be more interested in the football than his own profile.
