(Taken from Evening Chronicle) IT will be more a case of brothers in arms than a family at war when Gateshead and Blyth Spartans go head-to-head in one of the biggest games either club has been involved in. Gateshead will make the short journey up the coast on Saturday week to face arch-rivals Blyth in the quarter-final of the FA Trophy. The stakes could hardly be higher ââ¬â a place in the two-legged semi-final ââ¬â and just one stop from a first Wembley appearance. At the centre of the storm are the identical Turnbull twins, Gatesheadââ¬â¢s Phil one hour older than Blythââ¬â¢s Stephen, both midfield artisans. To add spice to an already high-octane occasion, the 24-year-oldââ¬â¢s have never faced each other, and recently bought a house together in South Shields. Phil said: ââ¬ÅWe played together at school, at the Sunderland Academy, at Hartlepool United and then at Gateshead and are very close. ââ¬ÅWe always look out for each other, but while the big game on the 26th will be a proud one for the family, weââ¬â¢ll be going at it hammer and tongs. ââ¬ÅWhen the draw was made I got back into the house to find Stephen had put tape down the middle of the stairs and in the front room! ââ¬ÅI watch him at Blyth when we havenââ¬â¢t got a game and he comes to see me at Gateshead when he can, but there will be no quarter given on the day. ââ¬ÅWe usually discuss each otherââ¬â¢s game and how our respective sides are playing, but we havenââ¬â¢t done that since the draw was made.ââ¬Â Stephen is one of six former Gateshead players in the Blyth line-up, five of them having been released, three just last summer. He said: ââ¬ÅI was disappointed when I was off-loaded by Gateshead and there are a few of us with a point to prove ââ¬â we canââ¬â¢t wait for the chance. ââ¬ÅYou couldnââ¬â¢t have asked for a better draw. Itââ¬â¢s massive for both clubs and the pressure will all be on Gateshead as they are a professional club from a higher league. ââ¬ÅIt will seem strange going in against Phil as we have always been team-mates, and the fact weââ¬â¢re both midfielders makes it even better. ââ¬ÅIf I get half a chance to smash him I will ââ¬â I would expect nothing less from him ââ¬â but there will be no animosity after the game. ââ¬ÅWhoever gets through one of us will be rooting for the other to get to Wembley, and if thatââ¬â¢s the case one of us will be playing and the other in the stand cheering him on. ââ¬ÅItââ¬â¢s going to be a tremendous occasion on Saturday week in front of a big crowd, and if we donââ¬â¢t go through I hope Gateshead go all the way.ââ¬Â Blythââ¬â¢s FA Trophy quarter-final against Gateshead on Saturday week will involve segregation, Gateshead fans housed in the Plessey Road End.
