I would have thought that my saying that the Tatra mountains were easily defensible would have been a good clue as to a likely military strategy for the Czechs.

 

Czechoslovakia was handed to the Germans (Sudentenland part) via the Munich pact which the French and English signed.

 

Linked to the Munich Agreement granted. However Chamberlain referred to the Czechs as " People in a far away country, f which we know nothing." Edward Benes the Czech leader appealed to Britain and France for support. Had that been given in the way that it was to Poland ( A flat country far less defensible) then the Nazis would have had to fight for Czechoslovakia. The Czechs were much better equipped to defend themselves than Poland and a protracted war would have meant Germany leaving The Rhineland very lightly defended. The Wehrmacht was essentially a horse drawn army in 1939. Moving artillery in mountainous country would have been very tricky. A missed opportunity to whack the Nazis early doors.

 

Haha. Well I did spend three years at Uni and another 43 afterwards studying the subject, so I may have a small advantage there.
