The generally accepted reason for appeasement was to re arm. However, had Chamberlain backed the Czechs in. 1939 Germany would have been fecked. It was a relatively well armed and easily defensible country due to the Tatra mountains. An attack from the west would have been very difficult to defend for Germany.
