The first one did have a measure of success, just look at the Whitty graphs. The trouble is we then had Eat out to help spread the virus and that worked very well, quickly followed by the schoolhouses firing up full of canoodling fifteen year olds, quickly followed by universities and canoodling eighteen year olds.

If by success, you mean destroying the economy, 3 million missed cancer screenings, increase in mental health issues and suicides, destruction of millions of jobs and businesses as well as the trashing of our civil liberties and freedoms to combat a virus with an IFR of 0.14% and falling, then yes, the first lockdown was tremendous.

Of course, it's the sign of the quintessential yes-man, that blames people for the Government's failure to "control" the spread of the virus, as if controlling a virus has ever been shown to be possible in the general population.

The first one was needed as we didn't have enough information. This one wouldn't be needed at all if the ****s in charge weren't incompetent thieving ****s.

I don't agree with the bit in bold but your opinion was shared by many at the time, albeit it is still wrong, in my opinion, as we had plenty of information as to what was happening in Italy and Spain, who was being infected and killed. Our Govts chose to ignore the data and "let rip" the virus throughout our elderly communities resulting in tens of thousands of possible preventable deaths.

The first lockdown emboldened the State to impose authoritarian, CCP diktat on a former liberal democracy, because people were scared.

We will probably never get that freedom back.
