When I had the misfortune to be burgled a number of years ago, I went and filed a report at the local police station. A week later the local police phoned me, asked a few stupid questions and then told me that they considered there was no chance of them making an arrest and little chance of them recovering my items (obviously there was no chance of them recovering the cash) so they would be taking no further action.

Having had a camera stolen, I had visited the local shops that might have been offered it and given them the serial number and details to stop it being fenced locally. A month or so later I got a letter from a debt collection agency about a cheque that had been refused by my bank. Currys had accepted a cheque for £200 from somebody without a guarantee card so I told them where to shove it – I had stopped the cheque book on the Saturday morning after being burgled on the Friday night.

Around here the burglar was almost certainly a junkie, so I wonder how many fixes they got for £200 of electronics. The police know there is no point in prosecuting them so they just turn the other cheek.

 

The bins going unemptied and the unions on strike for more pay... I seem to remember that happening once before but Labour were in power back then...

Coventry City Council appears to be run by Labour and has three Labour MPs, including Forum favourite Zarah Sultana. So it would seem that Labour do not want to pay more to have the bins emptied because that would go on the Council Tax bills of their constituents, who might forget to turn out at local elections in May.

Presumably the train drivers are not using Southern Rail to get to their conference in May as they have probably left it too late to set off to arrive in time.

 

I would love to know how a “diversity matron” differs from a “matron”. We might all have the stereotypical image of a “matron” as being a Hattie Jacques like bossy senior nurse doing the rounds of the wards lusting after Kenneth Williams but, according to Nursing Times, the modern “matron” is a band 7/8 office-based practitioner who does not manage staff but covers six to ten wards.

Does “diversity matron” really mean white female band 6 senior nurses need not apply?

 

So the article says that the chair of the professional body has called for the same rates, did they get it?
