I recently revisited the castles of Ashby de la Zouch, Newark and Kirby Muxloe. Such a terrific couple of days .

 

Sounds positively delightful...apart from the Newark part.

 

Newark is okay. The castle is a real gem and is superbly maintained. King John died there, in case you didn't know.

I am sure the castle is lovely, but Newark itself is full of pikies, is it not? I have to admit that I did not know about King John.

For the most part, I find the folk of Nottinghamshire to be friendly and kind-hearted. Newark has its unsavoury elements, granted, but there are certainly worse places out there, such as Thetford, Herne Bay and Harlow.

 

The only time I have been in Nottinghamshire is when I visited Radcliffe On Trent(I think it was called). It was probably in 1993ish, went to the City Ground and Nottingham Forest beat Chelsea 7-0, would you believe?

I do believe it, my great buddy. That match was 30 years ago. The Forest ground is in West Bridgford, on the Radcliffe Road.

I'm a regular visitor to Notts and have been for many years, as my sister is a nurse up there and my elder daughter attends Nottingham Trent Uni.

A great place, in my opinion. Fine history. Decent folk. Excellent transport. And Rock City.

 

When I was at uni in Glasgow, the rumour was that Nottingham uni had a ratio of 7 women to 1 man. I assume that isn't the case now?( it was probably fake news anyway)
