It never occurs to them that maybe shipping companies from around the world didn't want their goods to spend weeks on the ocean only to have it parked at the docks until some minor dispute was resolved with the unions about toast or toilet paper.

People ship goods with the hope it will arrived at it's destination in good time and if that means travelling a few miles around the British coastline then they will take that choice and be known as reliable.
