The problem with the Tubs economic model for the working classes is that they may, in the short term, scrape enough from their labours to provide a living of some sort. The trouble really comes later on in life when they no longer have a functioning support network in place. Middle class people ( Champagne Socialists if you prefer) have sufficient funds to see their way through and many of them are issuing warnings to their poorer citizens of what lies ahead. Sadly your average RedWall voter cannot grasp this. Promises of "levelling up" are just the mirror image of Trickle Down Theory. That didn't work either. If you are going to level up then the implication is that some people will be levelled down. I can't see Tubs or his acolytes wanting to do that.

So what will happen is that the middle class will give up on trying to help the less well off as their warnings go unheeded. In effect they will raise the drawbridge. People like me who have more than enough to passon to their kids will be fine. Those who have been seduced into taking a few grand in equity release to spend their final days propping up a bar in Torremelinos will leave their kids nothing. They have only years of ( at best) hard work on low pay to look forward to. That is when the Tubs legacy will kick in. I predict a riot, or two.
