Network Rail is an independent management company which manages the railway infrastructure on behalf of the government. And is prevented from recruiting staff, by the government; the private train companies received huge tranches of public money from the government during Covid, to protect their profits and dividends to shareholders. All the franchises have failed at some point and had to be bailed out by the government, because the privatised railway model is a ****ing disaster that has never functioned properly since day one. And that is entirely on the previous Tory government which ran down then sold off British Rail, and the present Tory government which is running down the current set up, but with no one available to flog it off too this time, just con-artist “management franchises”, or theives to use a more precise term.
