The gyppos around my way gave taken to wrapping old mattresses in polythene and flogging them as new ones left over from kitting out hotels. You can imagine the scene when they get unwrapped and the new owner smells the puss and puke.
I just bought a brand new washing machine as it happens. I use it on a daily basis. I bought it off tinternet. No idea if those selling were travelling folk although they did have a Greek name.
