Rafah (southernmost Gaza, near the Egyptian border) Declared a safe area during the January–May 2024 Rafah operations. A tent camp here was bombed on May 26, 2024, killing ~45 people. 3. Deir al-Balah (central Gaza) Marked as part of designated evacuation corridors and safe refuge areas. Palestinian officials reported strikes despite its “safe” classification. 4. Khan Younis (southern Gaza) Israel directed civilians from the north to Khan Younis in October 2023. Bombings occurred soon after, including in areas signposted as safe. 5. Al-Mawasi Expansion Zone (tents & coastal strip) Sub-designation within the broader Al-Mawasi corridor. Became overcrowded, under-resourced, and repeatedly hit.
