In recent years, private landlords had Net Zero costs imposed on them that require them to upgrade properties that they own to meet green targets. In the last couple of years of the Tories, the taxes that private landlords paid on their profits were also raised, thus eroding their returns. As surely as night follows day, when a government raises demands on the private sector, the private sector raises prices and cuts back on spending.
