    Politician lies and you’re surprised?

The whole presidential pardon thing is bollocks, but let’s not pretend like it’s a new thing, like it’s been mentioned on here Trump used it for friends and family and those before him did similar. Of course Biden was going to do the same.

So what? ... he's now just following a precedent ...

For what it's worth, I firmly believe that none of Hunter Biden, Ivanka's father-in-law or Draft Dodging Donny should be able to escape the justice system due to presidential privilege... makes a mockery of their constitution...

It’s beyond pathetic. Now Trump will come in and immediately release everyone banged up for the riots.

Why do you think he won’t serve out the full 4 years?
He’s the man in charge now and will be up to the inauguration, which is his full term. He wasn’t replaced for this term, Harris was for the next term.

Why does what Biden done change that. Trump, in his last term, pardoned a number of people and has indicated would do the same in the next term.

Apart from pardoning his corrupt son, Biden's made few if any meaningful decisions for long enough. Harris seemed to spend her time getting pissed and bribing pop stars to attend her rallies.

Neither of them have been running America for quite some time.

If Trump is pissed off with Biden pardoning his **** son, I’ll look forward to him getting rid of the presidential pardon and not use it at the end of his term. Yeah that’s not going to happen.

That is a very vague term “tax on alcohol”. Do you mean alcohol excise duty, which is the tax that producers (breweries, distilleries, vineyards, etc.) are charged on production that is sold in the UK? I suspect not because I fully expect that people doing home brew in the garage or the shed are tax dodgers in that circumstance, depending on how much they brew (duty is due on amounts above ten litres). The OBR estimate for 2023/4 duty is £12.6bn but they are pretty useless at estimates. Before the Rachel from Accounts Budget, the estimate was £13.1bn but she cut the duty on low ABV beer by one per cent as a hollow political gesture.

So what you probably mean is alcohol excise duty and VAT passed on to consumers at point of sale through pricing. Obviously since the rate of duty is now based upon ABV level, spirits and wines charge a higher rate and so are more expensive. Your argument about a 50/50 split in sales does not work. Firstly there is no alcohol excise duty on exports. All that whisky that gets exported from Scotland is not taxed here but may be subject to taxation in the jurisdiction where it is imported. I would expect that more wine and spirits are sold for home consumption and they are more expensive, so represent a bigger share of the £12.6bn than beer, which would be bigger by volume.

You may not be aware that once a year (usually a Thursday in September) Wetherspoons have a tax equality day where they take a hit and charge customers for their products at supermarket tax levels (no VAT) to make the argument that pubs and restaurants get a raw deal compared to more enlightened regimes such as France, where bars and restaurants pay the same rates of tax as supermarkets.

Pubs are subject to VAT on food and drinks whilst supermarkets are not. So supermarkets sell alcohol cheaper, sometimes as a loss leader. That is killing small pubs leading to closures and loss of employment; however, pub staff are not classified as working people by the current regime so they have put up the cost of employing them. So that will see more staff losses. Not to worry though as they will all be employed in high pay jobs building wind turbines by Ed Milipede.

In the last Tory Budget there was tax relief on draught beer but that makes little difference to publicans as it does not offset their much higher business rates – effectively 10 times what the local Tesco will be paying, although the supermarkets do not sell draught beer (obviously).

If the government cut the rate of alcohol excise duty that would benefit supermarkets, pubs, restaurants, etc. equally since the cost of that tax is passed on to them by producers.

One possibly reaction could be to call Hunter in to testify on his actions. He has immunity from those crimes, but could still commit perjury if he doesn't fully reveal all that went on.

There are an awful lot of people around the world that could be nervous about this, and they include people that will not be happy if Biden's testimony drags them into the spotlight.

He'd have possibly been safer in prison.

It's no surprise to see who is happy about it given it includes the child porn on his computer.

Obviously that is what Statue Whisperers would like as there will be virtually nobody coming ashore just east of Eastbourne, miles from Dover and Folkestone, way past Dungeness but a few miles from where William the Bastard arrived in 1066.

Is that a good one for spearing a whale, shark or something edible?

Biden being the same animal as Trump isn't the win you think it is.

Just looks like years of projection.

Hunter being immune from prosecution doesn't mean that Joe is, and he was directly complicit in several of the allegations, and implicit in the cover ups.

If Hunter was innocent, there'd be no need for such a far reaching pardon.
