why do I not remember this vote? and why on earth would the public vote for a less fair system?

    Alternative vote system rejected
The UK held a national referendum on reform of the voting system in 2011 after the 2010 election delivered a hung parliament and the Conservatives entered a formal coalition with the Liberal Democrats.

The proposal to replace the current first-past-the post system with an “Alternative Vote”, which advocates said would make results more proportional to the national share of votes cast, was rejected by the public, by 68% to 32%.

PR they only win if they agree to team with LD and Greens which I guess would be the case. The majority would be tiny so hard to get anything agreed.

I didn't vote Yes for this as it's not PR at all: just a method to get to the same situation we already have but with the smaller parties getting eliminated and their votes going to the big two:

    Proposed AV system
Under the alternative vote system proposed in the referendum, voters would still be electing just one candidate associated with one geographic constituency. Instead of simply voting for one candidate on the ballot paper (with an "X"), the voter would instead be asked to rank one or more of the candidates in order of preference. If after first preferences have been counted, no one candidate has a majority of the votes cast, then the bottom candidate will be eliminated and votes for that candidate are transferred to each voter's next available preference. The process continues repeatedly until one candidate reaches a majority and wins.[32][200] The system proposed was a form of "optional preferential voting", in that voters would not be obliged to rank every candidate in order of preference in order to cast a valid vote.

After convicted fraudster Louise Haigh was derailed from her role, Heidi Alexander has now been appointed as the new Transport Secretary. Heidi’s CV doesn’t exactly fare well for the department…

From 2019-2021, Alexander was the Deputy Mayor for Transport for London. In 2019, she candidly confessed, “I may not have qualifications in transport.” A frank admission given her track record in the role, in which she oversaw:

    • 28 strikes on TfL-run services.
    • Increased tube delays caused by faulty trains by a third in two years.
    • Increase in complaints about TfL by 77% over three years.
    • Increase of TfL fares costing passengers an extra £60 million in her final year.
    • Helped implement the much-hated ULEZ expansion.
    • The Crossrail project (Elizabeth line) which opened three and a half years late and more than £4 billion pounds over-budget.
On the right track to deliver on transport across the country then…
