You could not see out of the hole you had dug ages ago. Strange how many people that I know that stuffed their private pensions, picked the right investments and retired in their fifties to spend their time jetting around the world laughing at the ‘working people’ back home. A mate of mine is currently sunning himself at his place in Cyprus. People in all sorts of pension schemes are going to be screwed going forward as they also happen to be big purchasers of Gilts; and the bond markets are starting to look like a dicey investment as yields go up in response to this government’s intention of pushing debt up and destroying private sector businesses with punitive tax levels. At the time of writing the yield on ten year Gilts was 4.51% up from 3.75% in September, so something happened in October. One year Gilts are currently 4.69%. My 5 year Gilt tracker is down 5.1% so that looks like a crap investment with the Commies in power.
