Joe Biden, US President, July 24th: “I’m the first president in this century to report to the American people that the United States is not at war anywhere in the world”. Surely they should take the old fool away now... Where do those planes come from that are bombing Houthis in Yemen? Where do those artillery shells come from that are being fired into Gaza? Where do those missiles come from that the Ukrainians are firing at the Russians? Okay, so the Americans are not using them in the latter two cases and the ongoing targeting of terrorists in Yemen is not officially involvement in their civil war. Could Sleepy Joe find any of these places on a map?
Paul Embery thinks this is an “extraordinary image” because there are presumably Protestants and Catholics marching side by side carrying the flags of two different nations rather than having a sectarian fight. What I find extraordinary about the image is the lack of police in riot gear, mounted police and dog handlers. This does appear to suggest that both sides have concerns about uncontrolled immigration in their communities and have taken to the streets to peacefully make their feelings known to their political leaders. I wonder if reporting on BBC Northern Ireland referred to them as the far Right...
