The French population obviously care - Macron took a gamble and despite early polls his gamble paid off if the Exit polls are correct.

Don't get the bolded bit. Surely a far left or centre left party is going to work better with Starmer and the UK, than a far right party in the sense of rational?

    You would think so.

History shows us that self described centrists always work with the far right to destroy socialists and communists. Then the far right get out of hand, the communists rescue the centrists and the centrists never forgive them for saving the day

I think we've dodged a bullet in the UK if the exit polls are correct. I think we've had enough aggro over the last few years, the last thing we need is a far right party getting in and causing more problems right now - yes complications but I'd rather deal with them as the need arises. Starmer has found a middle ground and I just want us all to use this opportunity to calm down, something the National Rally (RN) will not offer us.

Macron has been showing up at the TDF, he's a clever guy.

Hard luck Apoliticals, the far right Les Pen's were just too racisty for some.

    Come on the NPF!

The French election process is designed to avoid extreme parties getting into power. The 2nd round is when everyone votes to stop the extremes, even for people they hate. It makes sense tbh.

I don't think the (likely) result is quite the success for the centre as some seem to think. Le Pen has increased her party's seats, and Brussels is already voicing concerns over the extreme left being more anti EU than Le Pen, and they seem to have some interesting policies.

Sacre bleu! Some spokesman for National Rally on Sky News now speaking in broken English (better than Kustard's though) has just said that the French electoral system is wrong and that the procedure should be more like as it is in England (his words) "where the largest party in the first round voting gets to form the government".

Hmm, I can't see alignment anytime soon between English crypto-fascists and their counterparts in the land of Farage's forefathers. :emoticon-0143-smirk
