On the subject of lobbying groups (you're spot on), Tufton St - especially the IEA - has had a more pernicious, sinister influence over the last 45 years on the British way of life than any WEF, Davos, Soros or Blofeld ever did. Labour was in their thrall last time (especially Mandlesohn) and rumours are that Reeves is not averse to them. Which is terrifying. They in turn are primarily funded by the Heritage and Koch Foundations, and also the Cato Institute. They are the cancer in democracy, but it's hard to see a cure for them. Four-fifths of all SPADs in the Boris' cabinet were supplied by Tufton St. At a cost 3 x of that in 2010 to boot.
Yeah , it’s not a new thing . New Labour were riddled by their influence. As you say, a cancer that spreading and impossible to stop. We are heading to American levels of influence but hopefully not including religious fundamentalism influence / groups .
