They seem to have a fantasy version of how the world is, or at least should be, and then get bitter and angry whenever reality shines it's light on their existence.

Their preferred ideology has failed whenever and wherever it's been tried, yet they cling on to the dream. It's a recipe for misery.

 

There are some interesting documentaries on the plight of German speakers in post war Eastern Europe.
