Inheritance tax has always been popular with politicians (especially the Left) as the dead cannot vote. Those people paying on assets over £325k is probably quite a sizeable number in the South East but the notion that the rise in the value of your home is “unearned income” amuses me since the only way to realise that “income” is to sell the home and, presumably, live in a cardboard box. Some lifestyle choice – no wonder the numbers have increased under the Tories.
It’s £325k per person, so for the majority who are married or have partners, it’s £650k. So no, it’s not such an issue for even those living in the SE
