Totally. I have a soft spot for HD and Ziggy though as they were amongst the first albums I bought (or my elder sister bought, if I'm honest about HD). He was so ****ing different in all that era that he really did seem to come from Mars or further afield. Wasn't Low during his Nazi/Nietzsche, Man and Superman stuff as well (though there are references to that right back in HD if you listen)?
I read that he got off the drugs and turned to booze in a big way during the so called Berlin period. "Always Crashing In The Same Car" was reference to him in the gutter bladdered every night Him and his mate Ziggy Pap. One of my favourite songs of his (and certainly not elevator muzak like the bastarding Beetles). The **** was a genius in his pomp
Yeah, part of his "Thin white Duke" era that started with Young Americans - another cracking album, produced by a certain John Lennon iirc.
Black Star is a pretty good album too, though I've only listened to it about 3 times. So still a genius even when dead/returned to his own planet.
Black Star was a fitting finale. "I Can't Give Everything Away" is majestic, even has a wee harmonica bit in it in homage to ""Speed Of Life" on Low.
