We had a 99 year lease on Hong Kong. It expired and China would not extend it as Hong Kong was very successful so they wanted it back. That they have reneged on their agreement regarding maintaining democratic institutions will be a surprise to no-one.

There is no lease on the Falkland Islands and it has been a British Overseas Territory for nearly 200 years. Also in the South Atlantic is Saint Helena that has also belonged to the Crown for around 200 years.

Most of the population of the Falkland Islands are of British descent whilst most of the population of Hong Kong are of Chinese descent. Hong Kong citizens could have applied for British Nationality before the handover in 1997.

 

Astonishing – a demonstration in Parliament Square demanding the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza never got mentioned on the BBC. Not enough chanting, no illegal placards and no Corbyn.

Legal migrants from India or Philippines working in our NHS are welcome, they filled out the papers & will return home .
