Yes we do still have to play Northampton, however, they are now nine points clear of the drop. So if they maintain that position by the time we play them, it will be less important than the game they had against Oxford today. Not saying they will be any the lesser a side but that fighting passion may not be so evident.
btw not sure if anyone has realised but Crewe still have Cheltenham to play (21st April). ps. just read back and noted gioblues mentioned it.
Rotherham are only just outside of the playoffs too....so Cheltenham won't be looking forward to that either. I'd rather have our run in than Oxford's....
Good morning WINDYROG - been looking at some fixtures - Oxford, on paper, marginally more difficult run in than Gills - with Crewe's fixtures looking tougher. It really is a case that, if the season is still alive after the Daggenham game, the match against Oxford will decide 7th place. Let's hope the Gills season doesn't get stuck on the M4 - like the fans coaches yesterday ( again - every bank holiday !! )
I still think Cheltenham are going to be easier to displace than Oxford, but IF we do make it into the post-season I'd prefer to play the robins. Daggers game is going to be big as is Northampton.
Suddenly they are all tough games for all the main contenders with lots of the mid table teams in form. If you look at the last 10 games the points earned by each team is as follows; Cheltenham 9 Oxford 15 Crewe 18 Gills 17 So everyone is dropping points and 10 points might be more than good enough for Gills and Cheltenham look set for failiure. The trouble is getting 3 wins is a big challenge in these circumstances. Once the four playoff teams select themselves, it is just a lottery and form means nothing.
Completely agree and at last the focus is not just on what we are doing. We need to remember that all the teams around us are going through the same nerve racking moments, whether that be poor ref decisions, poor displays or just pure bad luck. People are saying Dag & Red is vital on Monday but it is no more vital than the other results around us, we could just make life that little bit easier. To be honest of all the teams I have seen this season, the one that I remember scaring me the most was that last 15 minutes against Crewe, they were awesome.
Good to see Cody McDonald is now starting to play well since he has come back from injury, has goals in back to back games since his own goal, starting to show how good he is now.
