The slide needs to be arrested soon - luckily time is on your side - new manager finding a side that works for him here's hoping.

    Let us hope so, anti.

We need to start winning soon. Hopefully we can offload some of the "strugglers" in January, and can bring in suitable replacements.

How are the finances are you cashed up enough to bring credible quality in ?

We are not allowed to pay any transfer fees; which is fair enough; but our finances aren't too bad, so we can afford moderate wages on a couple of new players, but we could do with ridding ourselves of a few existing players who just aren't performing for some reason at the moment.

    Sounds easy, doesn't it ? :(

Did you hear any of the interviews with Barker today? I think it's fair to say that if he could do what he wants we'd probably only have 4 or 5 players left in January, the vast majority of them would be sent on their way.

He also said that not all the players trained every day which gives credence to the rumours that training under Guy was quite laissez faire.

Could be he is referring to David Connolly and Big Pat - I don't know if their bodies could take too much of a battering in training. They struggle to play two games a week. Don't forget, King Kanu hardly ever trained !

However, if he is referring to other younger players, than that is totally unacceptable.

I've never seen anyone criticise Big Pat, but yes he's on light training because of his cramp.

Johnny Ertl and Romain Padovani always turn up for training so it's not them being referred to.

Carddock and Painter have been mentioned, both 'injured' of course - Devera and Mouatakil also mentioned.

Barker singled out Big Pat and Jed Wallace for praise today - only them.

True faithful supporters go to as many games as their life circumstances can manage no matter how their team is doing. I spent many times stood on a open terraced Archers road in wet and cold conditions watching a poor performing Southampton team but at no point did I think my hard earned money could be spent else where.
Hard times are ahead for Portsmouth but fortunately you have a large true supporter base and these fans are the ones who will contribute in some way to help Pompey back to see some highs.

As for the Spurs game today Woops, I would hope we have caught them at a bad time and 3 pts could be ours but as we know teams like Spurs that have quality players should never be taken lightly. I had a great family day out to the Man City game and if we play as good as that then it should be 3pts. I personally have been blown away by the quality we show and have but as a supporter you take the highs along with the lows.

I was staggered when MacInnes revealed that he had rejected two candidates for the then vacant manager's position at Portsmouth on the strength that they felt PFC were in a relegstion battle. Not having watched you play, Radio Solent's commentary always seems suggestive that the players are not good enough. As suggested by the informed comments on this thread, I feel you will need to rapidly rebuild the squad in January.

Back in August Portsmouth seemed to be a shoo in for promotion and yet December sees you in an altogether all too familiar relegation struggle once again. Portsmouth should not really be playing in a 4th tier football league and whilst it is my belief that the FL's scheme of deducting points has largely contributed to exacerbate the problems associated with the poor running of the club by previous regimes as well as to the inability to maintain a more appropriate positions which reflects the club's status, you appear to have no solution as to how to perform at this lower level.

It does make me wonder whether the well[-meaning amateurs running the club have the ability to return Portsmouth to where they should be. If you get relegated this season, I think you may as well throw in the towel with your club as you would never get out of the Conference on current form. With most PFC supporters seemingly content just to have a club, I put to you is this the kind of mentality that is appropriate for a team with such history who should really be in the Championship at worst? No more Saints v Pompey derbies at this rate!!!!

Home win for Saints this afternoon and Winchester to spank Romsey on 30th!!

great comment <ok> being a bristol rovers fan, im use to life in the lower leagues. the quality is not great, there is not much entertainment on offer, however we continue to go and support because he follow through thick and thin. through the good and bad. your club, you have had many good and bad times. wasnt long ago when you were in the prem and winning the fa cup and playing in europe. now you are 2 points off relegation and 4 points off bottom. this is when your club needs you the most to pull together and fight for the club and be the 12th man. you can turn this around, you just have to be patient and get behind the club.

you were 1 of the better sides who we have played at home so far this season <ok>

Picking up on Jack Sparrow's excellent post and the comments by Pompey London, I can appreciate that is might be difficult to throw £100 away to watch 90 mins of rubbish yet even when Saints were in League One I stuck it out. It seems wrong not to go and support you team if you have either the money or the time. The only time I've done this was when I "boycotted" a game during the Branfoot era. It didn't make a blind bit of difference and I just sat listening to the match on the radio wishing I was there. Watching your team during the bad times makes enjoying them in the good time far sweeter. I think that it is really difficult to fall out of love with your team no matter how bad things become. Last season I started to follow Winchester whenever Saints weren't at home. From October to the end of the season, I only saw them win once yet there was a morbid fascination in attending plus the fact that they ended up fielding school boys just in order to put 11 men on the pitch. To me, they looked like they needed all the support they could get. This season a new squad is riding high and it is a pleasure to watch some of their play. Players like Chris Flood, Danny King, Russell Cook (now left) Leigh Mills and keeper Ross Casey are quality and city have changed from being whipping boys to one of the best5 non[-league sides in Hampshire. You have to be patient but I find it difficult to understand a supporter who doesn't feel obliged to support their team no matter how dire the football served up.

Barker was interviewed on Solent yesterday and it would appear that there will be a massive clear out as he is not impressed with what he has inherited. The Conference is not an option for Portsmouth and I think it would mean curtains for your team.

I wouldn't mind only working a ten hour shift !

I know trains in general are ridiculously expensive, but how does it cost £100 to get from London to Portsmouth? Do you have a rail card? Even without one, I would have thought £50 at most for a return to Fratton.

Ah so it's £100+ in total, that makes sense. Well, with my rail card it's about £15 for a train ticket (yay for not living in London which automatically adds about 25% to the cost of any train journey), plus £20 for the ticket. If I prepare lunch, then I'll just buy a coke at the Park which is £1.50 I believe. If I've not pre-prepared a lunch then I may go to Subway in Gunwharf if it's a nice day and I want to have a bit of spare time before hand. There's also a Subway near the Park but I've never been to that, but in theory I could get lunch there. Usually get the 6 inch sub and a drink for £3. Almost never get programmes so that's about £36.50 to £38. Not too bad I suppose.
