Thanks smhbcfc and your transition remark is spot on and a Happy New Year to you and yours and all the great folks on this site. Sent from a cold and miserable Caleta de Fueste.
a lot on here poo poooed Maenpaa when he signed on and took over the regular spot... the reality is he has made some very very important saves... had some very good games ... and not really a bad one, like really bad one ...YET... most GK's do have a couple during a season so maybe we still have that to "get over"
We as supporters can see what we need, yet LJ is after another bloody winger from Watford.Crazy we need a driving midfielder and goal scorer.
I say he is one of the top keepers in the championship,Webster and him have been cracking signings,We are two players away from a excellent side.
It’s newspaper talk regarding the winger, so I wouldn’t get to bothered by that one. However I agree it’s not priority to get one but if we wait till the summer and COD won’t sign we may have to cash in on him. We could all be saying then why didn’t we get the one from Watford when we had the chance. As to what we need . Goalkeeper I’m ok with, wish he would come and catch corners but apart from that I’m happy with Niki. I do think FF will leave and we may need back up as I don’t think Max is ready. Possibly FF will be involved in the swap deal with the PNE keeper so he may be back up. Defence I think we are ok with with good back up’s. Wright, Baker Vyner and Taylor Moore all to come back so we are stocked up there. With Cameron Pring as a replacement to Lloyd Kelly if and when he goes. Midfield I think we need someone to protect better and have speed to allow Brownhill to move forward. As I think there is a lot more to come from him and could be our next jewel. Forward we need a jack in the box someone like Super Bob or Andy Cole that plays to Diedhiou’s strengths. I feel sorry for Diedhiou as someone who will play off him would suit him so much better than him on his own up front. But these two players I believe we need won’t be available this window unfortunately.
To be honest Rod,if i was Diedhiou i would be pretty pissed of playing up top on my own,for what its worth i think he has been fantastic the last month doing a hard job. LJ really needs to get two strikers playing closer together especially at home. Even my mates eight year old can see what city require
But we are unbeaten in 7 games and climbing the table. It may not be entertaining to watch but teams are now finding us difficult to beat with this formation. Yeah two up front will be more entertaining but do you want results or entertainment? It not always possible to have both at our level. The 5-5 draw against Hull was entertaining but I take a 1-0 win against 9 men Rotherham any day of the week
I have often criticized Fammy because in my books he doesn't get the job done but in hindsight you are both correct in saying that he is ploughing a lone furrow and needs help in getting results. Looking back through football history there is a long list of goal scorers who only got their tally due to the proper support alongside and even better the other players fed off knock downs, and you only have to mention Crouch and Shearer to see my point.
I agree about the lone striker issue, but do we already hold the cards in our hands to give Fammy the support he needs? Weimann and Taylor for example - particularly Weimann - if we played him more centrally then Diedhiou could feed off his ‘engine’ because he will run and run all day, being a real nuisance to opposition defenders and forcing mistakes for Fammy to pick up on. Taylor is only just back from injury so too early to judge, but I think he could partner Diedhiou too.
Both have been tried though. Both of them are not goal poachers, we need a goal poacher the one who is always there where he should be. The one I would like to see is Eisa as the two you’ve mentioned don’t shout goals to me. I do however agree with Loathsneyd, it is a results business and 1-0 wins against nine men is better than 5-5 against Hull. But a suitable medium would be nice to watch.
