Last night was one of those games that felt like had we managed to score 1 we’d have got several, especially early on.
It was my first game live due to being out of isolation so was good to be back. Impressed with Matty James and he seemed to be everywhere. Might have found our Wade Elliott in there. I know a few haven’t been but I have always liked HNM and last night thought he was really good doing what he does best hassling and drawing fouls (his fouls against last season was one of the highest in the championship) but last night they knew that if they didn’t foul him he was going to turn them inside out with clever flicks. So he took my MOM. I remember seeing Cam Pring in Malaga and was impressed with him then and said so at the time we’ve got a promising player coming through. And then it seemed to take an age for it to happen. But thought he was really good last night and hopefully he kicks on with us. Scott I saw glimpses but we know it’s not his preferred position but at 17 he is going to be a really good player. Shame he was playing in an area with a weak part of our team. We really need a RB and need one quick. Atkinson looked good but for me went a bit too far forward and seemed to get lost. Defensively good and commanding. Carries on think we’ve got a player there. Said it last night, Semenyo was too soon and also found out he’s only had 30 minutes reserve football since the op. One thing I will say is when he does get the ball they panicked with him going at them but did mark him well. Subs killed the game, ending up with 4 potential strikers on the pitch we lost our way and width. Should of been Wells for Martin and maybe King for Scott to protect him. Overall I came away with a feeling of we lost but we gave a good showing and go at them. A good striker (not impressed with Martin) could have and IMO was the difference. Only saw the goal in real time, as they didn’t show it on the screen again. But it looked like he took both shots well. I said to my Wife that it seems when ever the ball goes loose it bounces away from us. But for the goal it played the perfect pass of the post to him. I did like their forward, and to be fair to keep out Lowe must be good. On to Cardiff where I’m not expecting anything, so if we get anything will be a bonus. One final note. Swansea’s fans were a disgrace during the minutes applause. It was for Covid which affected everyone not just Bristol. I’ve always been impressed with their passion to sing loud and for me (being Welsh) when ever they sing the national anthem puts hairs on my neck. But last night and ever since they’ve come back down from the Prem they just want to antagonise everyone. Perhaps they are still jealous of us and Cardiff being classed as rivals when they used to only play with the Sags.
One point I did think with Semenyo playing a part and rushed back. Is a few clubs are watching him and we need money so by saying he’s fit might open negotiations to prospective buyers.
Semenyo, to me, looked like he did last season. Wasteful. He looks the part - size, power and ability but rarely an end product. He frustrates the hell out of me. Another is Massengo. Has the attributes necessary and has bulked up. All the running around, nice bits of ability on the ball but, for me, something is missing. And what was he and Atkinson doing on their rear ends for the Swansea goal. That said I can definitely see a player in there, he needs to slow down on the ball, composure if you like. I hope Pearson can bring out his undoubted talent.
Last season @SwansOfficial were a million miles ahead of us-Last night @BristolCity were matching and playing the better football. We have come a long way in a short time under @NigelGPearson
We forget he’s still only 20, I agree he needs to slow down a bit at times when on the ball and learn when and how to pass. He has lots of endeavour just needs to learn to find a killer pass.
We need to learn to win, we’re much better to watch and create more, but need to take our chances, IMO we need a striker with power, pace and who will score, I’m afraid Wells does not suit our style of play, it’s a waste of time playing him out wide.
Exeter 4-0 Rovers Harry Kite. Rovers are all over the shop as fans stream out of the away end, 24 minutes gone. Kite scores from 20 yards to heap more pain on Rovers.
@frosty920 "We want our money back" is the chant. Hard to argue. Diabolical stuff so far from Rovers. Total embarrassment. 4-0 after 27 minutes.
73 MINS Sheff utd 15 shots 4 on target Hudds 0 for 0 now leading 1-0 !!!!!!!!!!!!! note checked some of the text and may be a delay in figures!? currently SU 16 - 5 v hudd 5 - 2
I finally watched the match after getting home late from my family vacation and was somewhat pleased with what I saw but the Jekyll and Hyde reappeared just as the Reading match. We have some good looking stuff and yet I worry that we do not have enough clubs in the bag to complete the round. Yet again we fell foul to some bad luck and poor defending and unless we eliminate that from our game then we will continue to lose games like last night. We cannot continue with these below average performances and I would truly like to know what's going on in Nigel's mind regarding team shape etc and what he sees for the future. I know he is extremely outgoing in his interviews but what lies beneath that exterior professionalism? There is no doubt in my mind that he is more than capable of moving us forward but will the patience of the supporters and owners allow him that courtesy? P.S. Was there a real crowd at Ashton Gate last night because to be perfectly blunt I can see why it is called the library and perhaps a change of name is needed to reflect the true lack of noise and my suggestion would be the mausoleum? Come on guys the lack of vocal support for your team was shockingly bad - so turn up the volume please. I couldn't help but notice a somewhat overweight blonde lady wearing a white shirt sitting just behind the benches who spent the entire game hurling f-bombs at the opposition manager and I would suggest to her that she rinses her foul mouth out with disinfectant and supports the team instead. Perhaps she's a Rovers fan who got lost along the way but she does highlight my berating the lack of real supporter noise.
Disappointing result and proves the need to have strikers in the team who can take their chances. Hopefully if we sell Nagy and Wells and bring in Smith and maybe even the Brazilian kiddie we might score more from the amount of chances we are creating.
The seemingly new gritty approach has got me wondering when we will get the goal scorer needed to put the rest of the game to bed? Our style looks better but the song remains the same. Shame really.
