Exactly But hey, it was probably much cheaper to play Torquay than someone half decent It’s early days but the problems being described on here sound all too familiar and dare I say predictable
Ashton, I agree bar Pring being awful. Not his best game by any means but tough against the giant he was marking and first half the useless clueless lino missed shirt pulling right in front his nose.
That’s the Lino that gave a throw against Pring when the ball plainly came off their player and it was right in front of him. Even the ref overturned the decision, the guy was clueless
I agree with you on that one, overall I thought Pring did ok.. As for their goal, I personally didn't think it was handball and would have been fuming had we had a goal disallowed for that.. Our passing let us down today IMO
gate seems to be erratic ally forcast one site says 27000 ground capacity! another not seen it reported as 29??? ..!?
Only seen the highlights VAR would have disallowed our goal although it might have given us a penalty, with yours Lindsay is in fron of Wells bit of arm grabbing any mind point see you again when it will know doubt be cold and horrible
I agree, never a penalty against Wells. you were worth your point, possibly more on your second half showing.
Having watched the highlights (as few as there were for City) this morning, I have to conclude we were lucky to take a point. Our midfield was completely ineffective all game, and got dominated. New signing Knight was virtually invisible, fellow new signing Dickie showed all the hesitancy and indecision that has been an issue for our CB’s for the last couple of seasons. His god awful header in our box, almost saw us concede (and probably was) a penalty as Vyner dived to block the shot. No doubt had it been a pen, RP would have blamed Vyner, and missed the real cause of the issue, as he often does in his haste to have a pop at Zak. I think Pring did ok, no better, the attacking overlapping we have become accustomed to was missing. All in all, a flat, and disappointing performance, if you want to be top 6, games like PNE at home, have to be 3 points gained….
ST holders not turning up, they still get included in the crowd figures. No longer bums on seats get counted.
They seemed off the pace all over the park, they may be fit , but aren’t match fit, needed more competitive matches preseason for that. End of last season they were pressing all over the pitch as a team. Yesterday couldn’t press the skin off a rice pudding. Only the first game. Maybe an element of not wanting to lose first game (trying to be positive). You’re right I thought Dickie was ok , but seemed lacking confidence, a bit hesitant at times.
Some games last season after the World Cup break we played some really good stuff, quick one/two touch passing with intent and at pace.. not sure I seen any of that yesterday. Our players failed to gel, not all reading from the same script.. I thought from last season our aim was to become a team playing high intense football!! Sometimes new players disrupts and need time to adjust..I wonder if the team selection was wrong for the first game of the season..
DOES OUR LACK OF A POSITIVE START reflect on the decision to play so many games over a short period against inferior opposition .. a really bad choice by NP!? Should we have played maybe 4 games on proper pitch's with better opposition especially if our pitch was not up to standard! ... and maybe used the team we intended to maybe start with. Hopefully these are not bad decisions that are going to be our hallmark for the next 45 ...........
I noticed that on the highlights too, especially in what was the East End when we scored The BBC Sport website had the attendance down as 29,300 yesterday which is laughable Today it’s been revised to 27,000 exactly which is also clearly wrong Having watched the Championship highlights we look a mile behind some of the teams I saw in terms of pace and ability.
I like NP, but : Team/shape was all wrong. They outnumbered us in midfield the entire game and Weimann is not and never will be a midfielder. RR goes on all the time about a big/hold up striker, all I can say is if we persist playing long balls from Max then RR is correct. PNE (and every other Championship team will) made sure Max launched it knowing full well they'd win every header into a midfield where we were outnumbered. Village NP, sorry. Can't make out Cornick at all other than he can throw a football a long way. Very very disappointing. Knight looks to have an engine but ain't the biggest or strongest but early days for him and hoping he'll improve when others around help. Naismith is a big miss in midfield. Finally where's the high press, all action game we played towards the end of last season. Playing rubbish in preseason might be an answer.
