Offside and interference to me but I can't see the ball well enough to be certain, but pretty suspicious all round.
offside and interference buts i think i see another problem if you look closely theres the eighteeen yard box and within the eighteen yard box is the six yard box but within the six yard box theres the shadow box and thats where O'leary is playing!!!
You do realise O’Leary is injured ? Also we should have had a defender shielding Max, not allowing the forward to block him, especially as he’s injured.
No the team should not. This would play opponents onside closer to the goal. And City play a hybrid of zonal and man marking. O'leary is not controlling his zone because he is not being active.
Most teams put a defender between the attacker and the keeper to stop the keeper being blocked, Also with Max being injured it just makes sense. Their guy was offside, but it wasn’t picked up, why leave it to chance the Lino will spot it?, had we had a defender stopping their attacker from blocking Max he would have been able to claim the cross. Plus Max is struggling as it is due to injury so just makes sense to give him protection.
Either way he was blocked by a guy that was offside, but it wasn’t given, and is unlikely to be, why take a chance the officials are going to give it?, had we had someone stopping their attacker from blocking him there is no goal. Edit Also wtf was Dickie doing, the guy had a free header.
That’s as maybe but what’s his excuse for poor decision making and not commanding his area the rest of the time ?
We were discussing the circumstances of the first goal, and whether we should have had a defender stopping their attacker from blocking Max.particularly in light of Max playing with an injury. It’s pertinent because we need to address the situation so it doesn’t reoccur during the playoffs.
I do not think most teams do, but that is an opinion I could not quantify this. You appear to be making a point about O'learys strength - O'leary is not strong enough to come for crosses! If O'leary cannot move he should not be playing, but he was moving, diving, and punched balls that were further out than the six yard box. I do not think there is a problem with O'learys strength, its his decision making. Clearly effort has been put into getting O'leary playing higher and with bolder starting positions. However he has become erratic sometimes coming, and sometimes staying at home leading to indecision. O'learys control of the box has worsened, O'learys sweeping has not improved, his distribution never at a high level has not improved, and the best part of his game shot stopping to myself is no longer at the level it was. I do not think this is down to injury.
That’s a fair point, I can’t quantify either, but we often see defenders blocking strikers from interfering with keepers. My point is more that Max has an injury which is restricting his movement, something we’re led to believe he may need an operation for in the summer. We can disagree about his level of ability at crosses, but I agree it’s not his strength, therefore I think in these circumstances, bearing in mind his injury, it would make sense to use a defender to ensure Max isn’t blocked at corners. If we had a competent replacement I wonder whether he’d even be playing atm
