For someone who moaned so much and for so long about LJ's style of play, I don't know how you can applaud Warnock and have wanted him as our manager....
Where to start? Firstly I think we have been found out and as somebody else said the signs were there on Saturday. The problem is the old perennial, the midfield. Weimann had been playing well but he is not a midfield player and never will be a consistent midfielder and that meant that Paterson was a weak passenger for the whole 90 minutes. In short we were out muscled in midfield, hopefully Williams and Walsh will be up and running soon. The other problem was they had young athletic wing backs and we had Hunt and Rowe. I am sorry Dean not bringing on Brunt to help the overworked Bakinson in midfield was a really bad mistake. Bentley 6 Did little wrong. Hunt 4 Did little right. Vyner 5 Defensively ok, but his passing was poor. Moore 4 Defensively ok, but his passing was worse than Vyner and to be honest the mistake for their goal was not a surprise to me. Mawson 7 Was our best player up to his injury which looked serious. Rowe 5 Tried hard enough, just not good enough. Paterson 3 Waste of space tonight, because our midfield was so weak. Bakinson 5 Not at his best, but was on his own in midfield. Weimann 4 Running around a lot is not good enough for a midfielder, he was incredibly wasteful all game, looked lost. Martin 6 Difficult night for him, with nothing coming from midfield. Wells 4 Should have at least hit the target before they scored, but snatched at it and skyed it well over the bar. All I will say about Diedhiou is my wheely bin is more mobile. I really hope that Holden is not as myopic as Johnson was about our weak midfield and I hope that Weimann isn’t going to become Holden’s ODowda.
I think a bit harsh on Paterson as I don't think he was any worse than the rest of them....Our passing was woeful at best, we struggle to mix it up, even the free kick at the end, we passed it backwards instead of getting it in the mix........ mindbogglingly clueless......I don't even think Boro were all that either...typical slog from the master!!
It's not harsh, as I have always said about Paterson is if our midfield is not operating properly, Paterson is like playing with 10 players. I accept that he was a victim of the fact that Weimann was awful and he is not a midfielder it showed big style tonight, the quicker we get specialist midfielders like Williams and Walsh fit the better, otherwise it will be the same old same old for us, we have been sussed.
We fart about with the ball too much in defence and today we got caught out, The coaching team said the emphasis would be on forward movement but we are more comfortable passing backwards!
From what I read from those that saw the game tonight we were appalling and allowed ourselves to be out played by the opposition, and therefore deservedly lost. Why is it that every season we have a couple of matches where we don't look to be interested and the result is a poor result? At least we got off to a strong start which has lifted us above the rest but just a couple of games with the commitment of tonight will quickly see us fall down the ladder. Dean needs to get it sorted (whatever that may be) and bounce back in the next 3 or 4 games otherwise the hounds will be baying at his door looking for answers. Honestly I somewhat expected the result and although it isn't a disaster the hair dryer needs to come out of the cupboard.
