What should not be forgotten is that Pearson remains without some 13 players, with Famara Diedhiou unavailable due to a knee knock on Sunday. "We’re at a point where we are playing these players because we have to," the 57-year-old explained afterwards on the make-up of his side. Fans despondent at the current form should remember that by August Chris Martin, Andi Weimann, Callum O'Dowda, Joe Williams, Jay Dasilva, Cam Pring, possibly Liam Walsh and other new recruits should fill the ranks and make a real difference. ( From the Bristol Post)
Key players who were still part of a team that results wise were still not consistent. The only time we came close to consistency was 2018/2019 when we were 2 wins shy of of play off place. And it has to be remembered that only one big ticket player was ever sold in any January window (mid season) and that was Brownhill and that was to finance LJ's last throw of the dice by signing Wells, even though most fans realised that we never had a midfield that could ever supply the sort of chances that he normally thrives on. I am sure that when LJ replaced these players he honestly expected that they would turn out better than they did, of course he did, but they let him down big style and eventually got him sacked, they did the same with Holden and are doing the same with Pearson, the squad is poor quality throughout, too many cheap options, too many 'he had a good season once', too many 'i'm sure there is a good player in there somewhere' and too many injury prone players and worst of all too many who look as though they don't give a ****. It is generally a poor squad and if not broken up they will almost certainly get us relegated next season.
When you consider all the stuff going on behind closed doors is it any wonder why we fail at just about every single hurdle? Unfortunately this is nothing new to Bristol City because we have a terrible history of recruiting players that are way past their best who arrive at our doorstep with poor attitudes and even less commitment to their new employer. Did we not have a virtual dressing room split several years ago when it looked like we might make the grade and I have often wondered whether that scenario is more prevalent than we might think. The biggest issue in my mind is the control that the players believe they are entitled to have and unless those attitudes change then we have no hope of improving in the near future. In my world, and probably yours too, if you don't meet the requirements of your position then you are sent on your merry way hoping you can fool your next employer in the same way. Contracts need to be changed to a more equitable scenario that would allow clubs to ditch trouble makers and non-performers without recourse but I know that will never happen. I also would like to know why players aren't on performance bonuses that would make up a large part of their salary which would include team targets which would mean - no show/no dough? The players of today are pampered over paid brats who consider only themselves and have no commitment to their employer, so let's hope Nigel decides to stay and rid us of this scum that seem to be in abundance at Ashton Gate. When, and if, Nigel signs up then I expect the rats to disembark the ship and head for safer ground where their antics and uselessness might still be tolerated. Sunderland might be a good option - be still Mike.
The injury issue you mention is a real problem that needs addressing, although I've no idea how? It can't just be the manager's training methods, as we are manager No 3 in the last 15 months, yet the injuries keep piling up, either initial or break downs, so what is wrong. Every team gets injuries, I get that, but for the last 2 years, and this year in particular, we seem to have had more than the norm.
Way past their best or 'promising' but don't deliver. Lansdown is solely to blame for the utter mess the club is now in. It's the result of years of mismanagement and interference at the very top.
If Williams original expose about the rehab he received and then the absolutely weird 2nd expose suggesting that he a sought a 2nd opinion elsewhere and as a result of that had undergone an operation that strangely nobody at the club seemed to have been aware of, I think it may be a starting point. I am sure that I read somewhere that the club does not use a local private hospital facility for scans etc. they use a facility I believe in Worcestershire, which if true is utter madness and suggests to me whoever set that up is maybe getting something out of it. But to be honest apart from Weimann (played in his correct position) and Martin I don't see anybody currently on the injured list that would have made a major difference, Walsh and Williams are both still big unknowns for us IMHO.
