Because it relates to progress, you can only Measure progress from points in time, and or managers. The next manager after NP will be compared to him, it’s how it works….
I really hope so, unlike you, I always said this squad was not as bad as our league position suggests. Everyone knows where we need improvement for next season, now time for the board to deliver for NP and us fans
i agree Wiz, due to circumstances we rightly have reduced ambition/expectations, but for me that was always higher than just staying up. We all have different opinions, and that was mine at the start of the season.
Look at the squad for yesterday’s game, how many of that squad were playing when LJ was here. NP has assembled that squad with very little outlay and reducing costs, why do you think we should be higher than we are given those facts?
Is this the same Williams you said should leave the other week? I’ve always liked him ( looked good for Wigan against us previously) and wanted him to stay and get over his injuries. One really good thing NP has done is rest him this season between games. A fit Williams will be a huge asset to us.
Well, if that’s the argument, people (including those who have liked this post) can’t keep crying about the $hite squad NP was left. You can’t have both sides of the argument or you will begin to sound as relevant as Red Robin’s posts
As said if he can only play one game and not the next he needs to go. We cannot afford passengers. if he can get fit stay fit then he is a very good player If you look back at previous comments I wanted James-Williams-Messengo as the three playing in midfield. I will leave if to Nige he will make the right decisions on this.
I don’t 100% agree that he has to play every game to be an effective member of the squad. We will play a minimum of 48 games next season, so anything above 27-30 games from him is still a valuable contribution in my eyes. We all know he can’t play 2-3 games per week, he, and we have learnt that the hard way this season so NP has managed his game time well over the last month. With an ageing James also unlikely to play 48 games, rotating these 2 with HNM and Scott, plus any new singing make sense to me. We need a more experienced squad than we have now and less reliance on kids allowing NP to feed them in as and when required for their deviolpment
Which part of my post do you disagree with? , he’s had to change the Squad(because the one he inherited wasn’t good enough), with very little funds, and at the same time reduce the wage bill. I don’t see any contradiction in those remarks.
6 of the starting 11, and 6 of the 7 subs from LJ's time. 2 of the starting 11 came in under DH, leaving 3 of the starting 11, and 1 sub as NP players. The reason I think we should be higher is, the nucleus of the squad have been here for 2-4 years or more, and have had City higher up the table. Add to that the experience that NP brings, which was a major criticism from many on here of our last 2 managers, then I feel we should be doing better than we are, I acknowledge his hands are somewhat tied by finances; however, that is not a guarantee of success at any level, having a good manager who knows how to get the best out of players is,as seen at Luton, PNE, Millwall, Blackpool etc. All clubs that on face value did not have better squads than us at the start of the season, yet are all comfortably higher than us right now. To be clear, I am not in any way calling for NP to go, but I am saying he has to do considerably better than he has done, in my opinion.
I agree with much of what you say, although I disagree with your summary of which players are LJ or DH’s, many of the youngsters although not actually brought to the club by NP, we’re either never used by either LJ or DH, or if used certainly weren’t used often. NP has certainly given youth a chance. I will put on the record I was hoping NP would have had a much quicker impact than he has, and like you think he has to improve considerably next season. Where we differ is I’ve come to believe it’s highlighted just how bad we’d become, rather than all being down to NP’s inability to motivate., NP has had to, and still is, having to deal with players that are happy to just ‘get by’. I believe we have to give him the opportunity to change the mindset at our club. He at least does have a record of achievement previously, unlike other managers we’ve had recently.
