Said it previously with playing the kids it is going to be a roller coaster of a season. We ain’t going up and won’t be going down so this season is about experiencing the young ones. As frustrating as it was to lose in 89th minute again we will see this season out just above relegation. Somehow keep these kids and next season I feel confident of a much better season next year. We will hopefully have a fully fit Williams as well along side a fit James in midfield. Some on here rant about Messengo on TV viewings only. The crowd love him and he’s only going to get better and better. I’m got one or 2 home games left before my holiday then operation and would love to see him finally score. I think once that happens the roof will come off AG he’s that much loved in the ground.
The result is annoying but we should enjoy watching Alex Scott while he’s here, won’t be too long before he’s snapped up, kids going to the top imo, for an 18 year old playing every week the kid is class, he’ll go for much more than Messengo will.
I was there and although I won’t be as harsh as some about Massengo, he needs to improve his concentration level to span 90 minutes and he needs a better end product, again never looked like scoring when in a good position absolutely no conviction in his shot and rarely looked like delivering a killer pass. A wayward pass confounded by Williams who needed to be stronger and stay on his feet, But hey he is young and impetuous and talented and as you say will improve, but along with Semenyo, Scott, Benarous, Bell and Pring (whose 20 minutes was terrific, strong and powerful). We deserved more out of this game and to me there were more positives than negatives. Yet another absolutely ****ty referee, who did his best to ruin the game, he was shocking, where do the EFL dig these tossers up from, that’s 4 in a row now. Also on a night where their keeper was brave on 2 occasions going in with the boots flying, I personally thought Bentley was slow off of his line and maybe could have been braver with his attempt to save the winner.
Apart from the light pass by Massengo leading to their winner, thought he played well, most of our movement going forward was down to him & Scott, I actually thought Scott was our man of the match tonight by a Country mile, which should please you!.
We certainly have some good looking players coming through the ranks and some were on display tonight with their youthful energy bringing some light to our darkness. Massengo does have some nice touches about him but he frustrates the hell out of me when he does what he did tonight to cost us the game.
Didn’t watch this one, it was my partners 60th. I kept an eye on the score time to time. All the reports I’ve read suggest we played well and the kids were all pretty good. It’s a shame we lost to the inevitable late goal. We’re safe now so blooding the young players is the way to go, it will put us in good stead for next season.
Take a look at Kalas positioning on the winning goal. Yes HNM was at fault for the pass but that was way up field trying to push forward.
After Massengo's mistake they were 3 on 2. Kalas chose to stay with the man with the ball and imo was correct. Rod/1For what would you have done ?
I agree RP. It was another piece of sloppy play, a poor ball by DaSilva, poor control from Massengo, a very weak challenge from Williams who went to ground to early and easily for some reason? After that you have to take your hat off to the forward play, not much Bents or Kalas could do from there in my view.
Why were we so exposed?, Massengo played the wrong pass 60-70 yards from our goal, Williams didn't make the tackle, was only Massengo that tracked back..Yes bad pass & mistake, but should and could of defended better, losing possession there is always a possibility IMO. And in all fairness to him, the involvement and quantity of passes he makes pushing us on, most are bang on the money, some even needle in the haystack type...now and again, the odd mistake is inevitable!!
The problem is the timing once more, it was poor choices by 3 players during the ‘seeing the game out’ process and yet again that process failed because 1 mistake was exacerbated by 2 further mistakes by 2 other players, I still believe that Bentley could have been more proactive as well.
Look at these photos, and see if he stayed with his man. https://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/216091-coventry’s-winner/
I must be honest I was to far away [ on a free seat courtesy of neighbour and his grandson ] almost in the roof of the Dolman to comment. But NP stated we played well and were unlucky? I would say I enjoyed the match Thought we were better team although lacked fluidity. NEED to get upgrade on my specs ... I can see Dundry 3-4 miles distant OK but did have a little bit difficulty when play was away end
1For I agree kids will certainly make mistakes. One thing I notice about Massengo and Benarous is the difference when Scott has the ball. Scott always looks in control of the ball where Massengo and Benarous never give the same assurance. Hey, I'm nit picking and aren't we blessed when we add Semenyo to those 3. Back to Tuesday evening, City were trying to win, Coventry's plan all night was to play on the break. With our line up I was pleased with our performance and even Robins complimented the improvement under Pearson. Rod/1For - I've seen the video. There is no doubt in my mind Kalas was between a rock and a hard place. Nevertheless, imo, his actions were definitely correct. You are welcome to disagree.
I think the question should be in the 89th minute where was DaSilva who was then at right back? Having realised his pass to Massengo was maybe going to be short he should been hurrying back into a defensive position, Massengo should have realising that he was struggling have hit a longer stronger pass and then Williams should have been stronger and maybe so should have Bentley. I have have said along with @Supcon72 that Kalas has not been blameless in our defensive woes this season but this I feel was the impulse of youth in going for the win in the 89th minute, something that Pearson alluded to in his post match comments, it was poor game management and symptomatic of our season, however the games produced more positives than negatives.
Rod, you know by now my view is there's no issue with Kalas. I've read some of the posts on otib, for me most are/seem youngsters. Posters who'd be better off learning by playing rather than watching every Saturday.
