Inver, what you overlook is that for most of my time supporting City, and for most of us on here, we were crying out to be an established side in the second tier of English football as a start point. Under SL ownership, and now LJ’s management, that is what we have become. I think LJ is in danger of being a victim of his own success, such has been our improvement during his tenure, that we are now not happy with what almost all of us have craved for the past 30 years!!
True, people forget if it wasn’t for LJ we as fans would not be expecting Plays offs as a minimum. We have now moved on from bouncing between leagues 2 and 3 and now expect each year to be be top 6 in this league.
You could, and I did, use that argument with Cotts bringing us from the bottom of L1, to the double winning it, as well as the windscreen cup or whatever it’s called. We still got rid once it became apparent he wasn’t up to the job of taking us to the next level, I’m not a Lee out kind of guy, but I’m beginning to question whether he has what it takes to get us to the next level, that’s all. He makes strange tactical choices at times, when they work he looks like a genius, when they don’t, and of late they haven’t more than they have, he looks like an idiot , and like today trying to justify them makes it even worse. The reaction of the crowd when he took Elliason off today said it all. Lee said he had better options wide that’s why he took Elliason off, he quoted as well the number of ‘box entries ‘ we had , what tosh , box entries are not worth a fig if they are poor quality, the one thing Eliasson will provide, and Lee forgot to mention , is actual assists, not ‘box entries’ which actually means very little , but passes or crosses of a quality that set up goals, surely at 2-0 down that’s more important than ‘box entries’
In fairness to him I often think his summary of the games is pretty accurate , today he talked tosh , either he wanted to play down a bad performance and keep it in-house so to speak , ie bollock the players internally whilst not criticising them to the press , or he’s losing his grip, I hope it’s the former. That said as I previously explained I think much of the fault for today lies at the management as opposed to the players. I’m of the opinion on the whole , player for player this set of players are the best we’ve had for ages, I believe it’s the management that are not getting the best out of them for whatever reason.
One positive to come out of today is Williams having to miss 3 games, whilst he’s been a good stop gap for Kalas being injured I think now the back 2 should be Moore and Kalas, or Baker. Williams reads the game well , but is way to slow, we should maybe use him in a similar way to how we used Wilbraham in his latter days here. Before anyone has a go at me I’m not suggesting today’s sending off wasn’t down to Kalas , but I feel Lee won’t have the balls to leave him out . Now he won’t have a choice .
Today, I actually thought he lost it. Especially with his stupid red card at the end of the game. He’s been arguing with the officials and opposing managers a bit too much now. Now that gives him a touch line ban.
I didn’t see it, there seems to be some confusion whether he got one, was it deserved, anyone have any idea what happened ?
Lee Johnson unconcerned by his red card against Brentford and 4-0 loss https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/lee-johnson-unconcerned-red-card-3697166
Ipswich fans thought Mick McCarthy had taken them as far as they could in the Championship. They were right as they now languish in League One Stoke fans thought Mark Hughes has taken them as far as they could in the Premier League. They were also right as they sit in Championship. Sunderland sacked Jack Ross with their team 6th in League One in October they are now 13th. So yes lets get rid of a manager who improved in every season he has managed us despite having to replace his top players most seasons. To be honest our fans deserve it
I just want him to calm down with the daft talk. Without blaming he could of said we were well beaten, however we hung on for 70 minutes. Nothing there much difference but without “box entries”. But I do sort of agree in what you’re saying hence what I said earlier . We’ve become used to be top end championship team and that is down to LJ. However another point, is we’ve lost our way of playing this season and we are not entertaining to watch like we was 2 seasons ago.
I quite agree. We were second best in every single respect yesterday, and that's maybe why it's time to consider a fresh approach. Nothing lasts forever, especially in football, and imho we've become stale, pedestrian and totally predictable.
Whatever happens, if we sack LJ and get relegated, it would still be blamed on him.......just the way it is!!
