I've always rated BA at this level. Not sure how old he is though - could be past his best(?)
I believe that he wanted to come to us a few seasons ago when he wasn't getting games under Pulis, but I think his wages were prohibitive (which is crazy when we allegedly pay Palmer £30k per week NOT to play!!!)

Pressure on Bristol City to finally sort Famara Diedhiou situation as Middlesbrough hover
Our City reporter on the Senegal international's future and which way it may go.

Famara Diedhiou of Bristol City celebrates with Bristol City CEO Mark Ashton

Let us hope that it is stubborn brinkmanship. Bristol City are at a pivotal moment regarding the makeup of their squad as the future of reigning player of the season Famara Diedhiou weighs ever more heavily on the Robins.

The pressure is building on CEO Mark Ashton to resolve Diedhiou's contract situation. It would not be a good look for the club to see a former club record signing - who cost a cool £5.3m on arrival from Angers in 2017 - leave for nothing in the summer as his current four-year deal ends.

Which way will the cards fall? The power resides in Diedhiou's hands.

What does the City no.9 want to do? The 28-year-old is no doubt holding out for what might be the most important contract of his career as he goes in to his prime.

The 10 cap Senegal international has previously suggested that a new deal was coming but either things have changed or that was never the case.

First there was the Aubameyang-like social media post of an hourglass suggesting things would be sorted in a matter of time.

Then head coach Dean Holden explained that the forward had pledged his future to the club verbally, emphatically claiming he would remain. "He [Fam] feels - and he was emphatic to me a couple of days ago - he wants to stay. He loves the club, he loves where he lives and he loves the way that we work," Holden told BBC Radio Bristol in the summer.

Then Diedhiou even told us reporters after his winner against Derby County that the new contract would be signed soon back in November. But still there is no agreement.

Now Knowle's favourite son can sign abroad for free now or leave elsewhere in the summer with Neil Warnock one confirmed admirer, although Boro are tracking several strikers and have been linked with Armand Gnanduillet too, another 6ft 4 striker who is expected to complete a move to England this month from Turkish side Altay SK. The Frenchman is available on a free.

City could choose to accept a fee now and head coach Dean Holden suggested that the strategy for this month was to react to whatever happens, with interest building in a forward with international pedigree and just months to run on his deal.

"You never know if a phone call will come in for our players. We've got our ears to the ground in terms of movement and we'll react accordingly. We're well prepared. We've got a number of options available to us," he told Bristol Live this week.

Fans will hope that the phone stays silent as clubs remain quiet due to COVID-19 affecting the market, though that didn't look quite the case in the summer transfer market.

Whether City do indeed accept an offer this month, could become moot: Diedhiou will decide on his next move. And he could easily wait until the summer to work out what is best.

Complicating the matter, is that Holden has preferred Chris Martin as the spearhead forward this season, with Diedhiou as the super sub (four starts to the 18 of Martin in the Championship), netting three winners from the bench with only one Championship player scoring more goals after coming on as sub in 2020/21.

"Mark’s in touch with Famara and his agent and has got good relationships with them. Mark's very experienced in this type of thing." The CEO's judgement of the situation will be brought into sharp focus, though the backdrop of an irregular season and dropping finances do not lend themselves to new mega-deals for star players.

Should a move materialise, City supporters may wish to keep a close eye on what happens with previous transfer targets Glenn Murray or Britt Assombalonga who could both be on the move this month too (QPR lead the race for Murray). Diedhiou is tipped by many to make a final decision in June rather than now - and see how the campaign unfolds however.

We don't rule out a late twist in the story - as has happened previously with players such as Bradley Dack, Ben Foster or even Antoine Griezmann unexpectedly renewing, and others who have stuck to their word such as Marcelo Bielsa - regarding a forward who can be as unpredictable on the pitch as off it. Otherwise the outcome will be wham, bam, thank you Fam and a parting of the ways.

Mark Ashton, god help us, his name is cropping up again, Fammy is up for the swaps, contract still not signed and we are being told don't worry MA has got it all under review, if the guy won't sign and you can't offer him a satisfactory deal, move him on and get a replacement, earn your corn.

You are the CEO, do something.

I think Britt Assombalonga has lost his way at Boro, maybe that's down to the style of play of Pulis, and now Warnock not suiting him, so a change could be what he needs.

If he and Wells could gel, it would be a frightening proposition for Championship defenders?

Here is there Comparative career stats

    Britt Assombalonga

    Famara Diedhiou

Essentially very similar records tbh, so for me it would come down to wages, and who suits the style DH wants to play (assuming he knows what that is....)

I’d prefer we keep Fam personally, but that doesn’t seem likely, strange things seem to be happening lately, what with Walsh , Williams , Fam and the DH appointment, I’m usually pragmatic about these things , but even I’m starting to worry.,

He is 28 years old the same as Diedhiou, given his injury record, he might well take a pass on joining us, it's one thing to get injured playing it's another when your rehab staff are doing it.

On the + side if Diedhiou did move to Middlesborough his experience of living in Knowle will help settle right in.

I really like Fammy, he seems a decent bloke, works hard most of the time, but realistically he just isn't good enough at this level, and cannot deliver anywhere near frequently enough what we need in his position - Goals!! He has no pace, poor control, and has actually done better in the past 6 months at CB than CF..... I have to admit I thought BA was far more prolific than he has been until I saw the stats above, he has pretty much the exact same goals to games ratio over the past 4 years in the Championship as Fammy.

Spot on about Fammy, but I remember against us at AG in August last season, he (Britt) held the ball up well and was a constant thorn in our side, brought others into play and scored a great goal, he is stronger than Fammy IMHO.

And better if we come out of this with something rather than sweet FA in June.

Are you suggesting Martin and Wells can? , people Knock Fams goalscoring record, and yet this season when we’ve mostly gone with Martin and Wells they’ve hardly lit the world alight with their goalscoring exploits, so much so, we’re having to rely on Fam doing the business from the bench, which as often as not he’s succeeded in doing. I’m not suggesting he’s a world beater , as plainly he isn’t , but he’s as good, if not better than anyone else we have, or are likely to get.

I find it incredible that if a team is not scoring, then the first stop is to blame the strikers. If we were missing chances I would agree, but we are just not creating them.

I cannot think of a striker in the top 2 English leagues who would be a regular scorer with the crappy supply from our midfield and our wing backs and that has been the case pretty much for 4 years.

Firstly we simply do not play to the strengths of any of our strikers and secondly we do not create anywhere near enough chances for our strikers and thirdly our creation falls to pieces in around the opponents penalty and more often than not because of that lack of creativity ends up at the feet of our keeper and that has been the case for 4 years as well.
