strange but mum was born in Caerphilly and considered herself welsh to the core and I guess a little of that rubbed of on me, allways loved our visits over there as a kid and still do now.

My dad’s from Barry Island and we still own a shop there where he spent his early days before they moved to Bristol so my grandad could work at the Rolls Royce aircraft factory.
Later my grandparents moved to Moylegrove in Pembroke - a beautiful part of the world and I spent many family holiday on the beaches around there.
    Dad still considers himself Welsh.
    I don’t.

I assume in the days when it used to be a hospital.
Wasn’t it actually in England at that point , I have a neighbour born there and they always claim they are English. Monmouth has been passed between England and Wales over the years.

Many thanks for your observation - you either need to go to Specsavers or seek counselling......<laugh>

If we are (and we were) talking about "parentage", my father from Cheltenham was a descendent of Sir Christopher Wren. Couldn't find any sheep in the family tree though.......<laugh>

I have family in Monmouth. Spent quite a bit of time there as a kid. My Aunty has lived there over 50 years and is still considered an outsider.
Locals don't consider themselves English or Welsh, but Monmouth!
    Nice town, odd people.<laugh>

Wiz, do you want to create a parentage thread? We seem to have wandered off topic significantly. Sorry.

Hearing some of the stories on here I do doubt some of the parentage though.<laugh>

You could be any before 71 I think it was parts of Monmouthshire that wasn’t really English or Welsh as it was a rich shire so bit independent. Wiki is confusing when reading up on it.
I’ve got friends who say their English who was born there. My grandparents on fathers side and nan on mums side are Welsh and so are both my parents so I guess myself and my oldest brother just followed them. All the rest of my family are English, as is my Wife.
But reading all these comments we all seem to have either Welsh or English in our bloodlines.
