It’s a balance though isn’t it, if you want to be a football club owner it kinda comes with the territory. It’s ok if everyone does it, if not you could find yourselves in L1. We compete in a league where some clubs have parachute payments, and some clubs have owners prepared to subsidise their clubs within FFP, if our owner now decides he isn’t we are very likely to slip down the order. As someone once said if you want to a millionaire football club owner start as a billionaire football club owner. We are possibly reaching the point where if our owner decides he doesn’t want to subsidise us anymore we may be better off with another owner who is. I know it’s not as simple as that, but …..
No shame in that. Nobody ever said he was a PL level manager. Many good managers and players plying their trade in L1&2, including all of our recent former managers. None of them have gone on to achieve anything, but as usual, only 1 of them sounded out for failure....
Like you said at the end. It’s not as simple as that.. it might not seem like it at the moment, but I don’t think we are in a bad place.. SL has said that he’s not getting any younger and if the right buyer came along that would take the club forward then that might be the right time to step aside.. He’s certainly made the club look attractive to potential buyers, with the stadium, training facilities etc.. Imo, making sure the club stays in good hands for the fans & it’s community has to be key, keeping away from the likes of Saudi or rich tycoons looking to make their portfolio look good.
Just popped my head round the door of the Trafalgar to check it’s still there - the landlord recognised me and pointed it out straight away!!!
This time last year popped in there for a few pints of Thatchers Gold - great little pub and took my own photo of the pennant. And Gibraltar Day just around the corner. Where are you going to celebrate?
The highest paid Bristol City player in each of the last 8 seasons (List) We looked at Bristol City's highest earner in each of the last eight seasons. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/t...s-list/#2021-22-season-to-present-matty-james A couple of eye openers there...
Our flat is currently rented out so we are staying in the Rock Hotel. On Gibraltar day itself (tomorrow) we will be hanging around Casemates Square which is where most of the events are going on.
Just spent the day there but really enjoyed it, so will be going back soon. An ex-colleague of mine moved to Gib a few months back; he is an extremely fit 70 year old and recently RAN up the Rock!! Have you ever thought of doing that?!!
We walked up there last Sunday, via Referendum Steps (where our flat is - famous steps that are painted with the Union Jack) and I was blowing out of my @rse!! I’m seriously unfit these days after 2 years of working from home, drinking too much beer and getting no exercise. I’m going on a health binge when I get back - I want to get back playing 5-a-side as soon as I’ve recovered from my op later this year, but if I turned out to play now I’d collapse. Running up the rock would be an amazing feat for someone in their 20s let alone 70s!!! Fair play to him. BTW, when I was in the Trafalgar the landlord mentioned that someone came in and asked him if he had a Bristol City pennant and he pointed to mine. The chap then took a photo of it - was that you??!!!!!
There certainly are - if these figures are true. Looks like big wages have been - and still are - the order of the day, under successive regimes, not solely under Ashton/LJ - although I can’t and won’t defend them for the Diony disaster. Also interesting that there’s no mention of Wells or Palmer. They were rumoured to have been the main drain on the club’s coffers during the LJ era, particularly on OTIB, but maybe that was a load of rubbish?
It would be good if they could put up what the scale of pay managers/head coaches were paid. compared to these players.

I just had a quick look but could only find this, which quotes average, not individual: ‘The average salary of a Championship Football manager is circa £870,000…..’ https://sqaf.club/how-much-do-football-managers-get-paid/ I have absolutely no clue as to it’s accuracy….
Some thoughts on our start to the season….. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-city-knight-gauntlet-back-8733987
shows exactly how **** the club has been run-shocking-Out of that lot only Matty James is worth the wages-he is the man the makes us tick. The rest apart from Kalas when fit and Baker are shocking stats.
I havent looked back as to busy but likely the accounts would show it? if they sub divide remuneration into admin and other groupings!
