So would I, even if it’s 90 degrees in the shade,

 

Didn’t need towels in those days, probably because the ball soaked up any moisture

 

…. And you could hardly raise them up above your head, let alone throw them as far as the box

 

And if you headed a heavy wet ball you got an instant headache, which was even worse if you caught the lace !
Even kicking it was a real effort !

 

I don’t miss those balls.
Mind you, you can hit the modern balls much harder, so they come at you faster. They still hurt like hell if they hit you in the face or nuts - or the inside of your thigh on a freezing wet day!!

 

Jimmy Mann used to manage to hit it pretty hard mind, today’s balls tend to move in the air more though.
