I use to love the Green Shield stamps, they even brought them back for a short while, more like an Argos catalogue but all for free. I use to do loads of miles in them days, so got loads of free stuff. Better than the usual stuff which was always crockery stuff.
I did, you not old enough to remember Green Shield? Petrol stations use to give you free gifts, to encourage you to buy petrol from them. Most of them just gave you crockery, and there is only so much of that shhite you want. Anyway, Co-op use to do Green Shield stamps, when you shopped with them, and Mobil Garages UK (merged with BP) took up the idea for promoting petrol sales. Once you filled a book, it had a value, that value was exchangeable against gifts in a catalogue like an argos book. I think it's where Argos evolved from (Green shield).
