I was particularly pleased to hear the Nigel chants.......Yes you could see they actually got to him.........In all my years at watching football at a variety of grounds up and down the country. That is the first time I have ever heard fans chanting to the manager in adoration following a 4 game defeat. Normally they would be chanting for his head. Especially at some of the so called bigger clubs. Well done the fans and a first class bloody win at last....COYS
The best chant, which I didn't heard was: Let's pretend, let's pretend, let's pretend we scored a goal... Wreeeey!
A few years back we played qpr at loftus road and were on the wrong end of a 4-1 score line and the 88th minute the fans were chanting " we're gonna win 5-4, we're gonna win 5-4 " Loved it !!
I often wonder, what Shakespeare, Keats, Wilde, even Gilbert and Sullivan would make of the modern football fan's couplets.
Away at Forest after we'd already been relegated from the Championship, we went 1 up and then lost 3-1 as far as I can remember. Before the Forest fans had a chance to turn on us we were singing 1 nil and we f@&ked it up, they were bemused to say the least . Fantastic support for Nigel yesterday and the press can stick their unwanted attentions to Lambert, Hughton and Rodgers now!
Many years ago Pompey were away to Wolves, it was the *** end of a bad season, both clubs were in danger of being relegated, Wolves being 1 point behind us as I recall, West Brom were dead and buried. Wolves jumped out to an early two nil lead which they held for most of the game. "Down with the Albion yow'm going down with the Albion", they endlessly sang, now being above us in the table as it stood. Towards the end of the match Pompey struck twice, quickly in succession to level the match and put us back above Wolves again. I nervously stood up after the Brou ha ha of the goal festivities and sang, in my frankly reedy tenor, "Down with the Albion, you're going down with the Albion" The only time I ever dared to start a chant and it got a very good reception!
