So after a fantastic win over Spurs, the long wait is over for another Sooty match thread. Work conversation was improved. Spurs fan 1 "We should have finished you in the first half" Spurs fan 2 "That Ward Prowse fella looks like a class player. How much do you want for him?" Spurs fan 3 "We will buy him when you go down" The joys of football. Premier League Brighton vs Southampton 3:00pm Saturday 30th March American Express Community Stadium Both teams find themselves at the wrong end of the table but appear to have picked up some nice results. Brighton in driving position with 3 points ahead and a game in hand. Saints on the other hand had a roller-coaster of a match against spurs managing to somehow not go in at the break 4-0 and turning it around with a fantastic free kick. (Next David Beckham?) Seagulls Form Rodgers watching from the stand 2-1 Seagulls Seagulls 1-0 This years charity team, insisting on points for everyone An Owl and a Bat vs the world 1-2 Seagulls ThugsRUs 2-2 Seagulls Saints Form 0 shots in second half 2-0 Saints Saints 2-0 Tinkerman cannot tinker this team How to get away with 2 penalty calls and an offside goal 3- 2 Saints Saints 2-1 Give it to Kane and he will score.... oh Team News This weeks Stars of the season James Ward Prowse - 2 Games on the trot. Another fantastic free kick and a deserved England call up. Fun Fact 185 appearances, 178 shots... 16 goals. Another free kick against Brighton would be magical. Valery - New contract well deserved. Another fantastic goal. Who needs a striker when our young Frenchmen is banging them in for fun. Bednarek - Love the commitment, Every shot i see him throw himself in every direction much like a john terry salmon flop. Youtube if not seen. Injury List Lemina and Ings pictured back in training. Can't imagine either will be risked back after what happened with Obafemi. Long still out. Preferred Team Gunn Beddy Yoshi Vesty Valery JWP Armstrong Hoijbjerg Bertrand Redmond Austin Would prefer Armstrong over Romeu to give us a bit more pace on the counter attack. Predicting another thrilling 0-0
Brighton 1 - 3 Southampton. Gunn; Bednerak, Yoshida, Vestergaard; Valery, JWP, Romeu, Pierre, Bertrand; Ings, Redmond. Subs; McCarthy, Stephens, Targett, Lemina, Armstrong, Sims, Austin
If Ings isnt fit i think he will start Sims, after that display against spurs you'd think he has to be in contention
Agreed, can’t see Austin starting this one. Even a very good target man would struggle against Dunk & Duffy. Pace and a ground attack will be the better weapons
Brighton will want to pressure and chase the 3 points to make them safe(ish), we will concede as normal but I think we win 3-1 because we will release through the channels. Valery and Redmond important for this one.
Brighton are ****, but really quite good at home*. *in depth report there from your Brighton correspondent.
It's one of those games that you feel we could get three points from but we don't want another Cardiff incident and so a not lose point is the benchmark.
I see this as the game where the back five are most important. It is clear Brighton rely on width and wide players for supply to Murray and Locadia. Against Millwall the introduction of March and Izquierdo had a big impact on the result. I believe we can dominate them in the midfield but we need our fullbacks to keep their wide men quiet.
It wasnt just that he changed the game. He actually seemed to anticipate what Long wanted and vice versa. I've been as frustrated with Long as other have but maybe this is the pairing that will work.
Like at Liverpool 2017? I'll have some of that, please! We need to learn lessons from Sunday. Don't concede a 94th minute free kick (are you listening Mr Armstrong?) and if we do then please can our keeper catch it. There we go. Job done. We're going to win 2-1
Winning this game would do wonders for my confidence about staying up....because it is the sort of game we lose. Saints seem to get points out of games that we don't expect, but lose those games that you pencil in as a great chance. We will have turned a corner if we beat Brighton.
I think Cardiff were absolutely the wrong opponents for us, or rather we were the perfect opponents for them. We were always going to struggle to break them down, whilst remaining open to the sucker punch. None of that will apply to Brighton. They will try to play football, so will we. Not saying we’ll win, but there is nothing for us to fear.
