But most people aren't commenting solely about Sunday's match, Fraser hasn't shown International class goalkeeping for many months now IMO.

I was in Bournemouth academy as a keeper until 14, and Tyro league team keeper until 16. It is the most pressured position for sure. That doesn't change the fact that Forster is the worst starting keeper in the PL by a long, long way. I don't get why people can't just accept a liability when they see it - but I get the impression many people on here don't watch any football other than Saints & MOTD. Every keeper has the same problems to deal with that Fraser does so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make with that waffle about not knowing what anyone is going to do in the box.

He's been awful for a long time now, last season people were clinging to the idea that he was injured and not fully fit, this season he's apparently low on confidence. While I admit he probably has lost most of his confidence now, it doesn't take away from the fact he lacks a lot of quality.

Another point, you say he has advantages being a big keeper..... he doesn't use them nearly enough. He doesn't claim crosses in crowded areas or dominate his box like big keepers should do. His best performances are when he spreads his frame to make some good instinct saves, but that's very rare and just doesn't cut it.

I have never played in goal in football, (handball once, I played for Wales in an international because the Welsh goalkeeper car broke down, but thats another story :) ), but I would have thought his height would have helped him with crosses.

It's not that he can't catch crosses, it's that he can't do it under any pressure and he's scared to leave his 6 yard area to do so. I remember him making a few catches on Sunday, but there was no attacking players around him challenging for the ball when he did.

It’s rare that you see any goalkeeper venture too far out of the six yard area. Opposing players are trained to block a goalkeepers path to the ball. It will depend a lot on whether there is many opposing players in the box it is the late arrivals that are usually the most dangerous. In this day and age most teams have experts at exactly that.

Liam it is clear you don’t rate Forster if that is your opinion fair enough. I too don’t rate him too highly either. However I do understand the problems faced by a goal keeper in the professional game. That’s not to say my opinion is any better than yours. Let’s just say I prefer my experience to yours and especially with modern coaching technics.

People have opinions and once you have one (for or against) there will be evidence to support your position and you will see it every time. That is how discussions happen. Offering your 'evidence' will rarely if ever change someone's mind....only a person seeing things with their own eyes over a period of time will do that. As it is in Saints' interest, I am hoping Liam is wrong....but we can't afford to chase people off this forum.

My position is that Forster could be better, but will have good days. At the moment, he has my support because there is no point in getting on a GK's back and he is all we have. I would hope we get a better keeper, but that is a hard position to fill in a middle of the table club and doesn't seem to be a priority with the board....unless Mauricio pressurises them.

Nah don't do that mate, I'm pretty much in agreement with you and enjoy your posts.

One thing did strike me during the Spurs vs Real game last night though. Lloris made a very iffy save where he essentially palmed the ball back out into the melee of players in front of the goal. It's was a pretty bad bit of keeping, but fortunately for him it went to a Spurs player who wellied it out.

It did make me think about how if that had been Fraser, likelihood would have been it would have dropped to the feet of Ronaldo, who'd have scored and we'd all be castigating him for a(nother) bad piece of goalkeeping.

Trouble with being a keeper is that there's a lot of fine margin stuff between the good and the horrendous, as we all know, much more than other positions.

I do question Fraser though, and I don't think right now he's a good solution for us in that position sadly.

    Either way though, don't go!

I think knowing when to come out - or rather, not knowing - has always been his weakness. As a shot stopper, he's maybe not as strong as he was, or maybe he has been unlucky lately.

It seems to me though, that the number of times you look at a threat developing and think "no problem, keeper's got that covered - oh ****, no he hasn't", has now reached critical mass.

Lloris is easily the best keeper in the league imo, so the second statement is true <ok>

I wouldn't swap Frase for Mignolet or Steklenberg. ****, definitely not Stek <yikes>

Nah De Gea better than Lloris for me. Lloris had mistakes creep into his game in the last few seasons. I'd probs swap for migs but yeah not Stek.

That post was a piss take though as I was just demonstrating that judging keepers purely on goals conceded is ridiculous.

Nah, can't be that - when our players are warming up before the game they consistently get their shots on target. It's only after the game kicks off that the banjos begin missing the cow's arse.
